Toyota FT-1 Concept at 2014 Detroit Auto Show

The 2014 Detroit Auto Show is now over, at least for the press, so here are some of the highlights of what we saw. The biggest surprise of the show, not to mention one of the most striking, was the Toyota FT-1 concept car, which previews the future styling direction of Toyota and hints at what’s to come for the automaker’s new Supra-like
sports car

. Fans of the Supra will be glad to know that the same design studio which designed the final MkIV model, America's own Calty Design Research, was also responsible for the new FT-1.
2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 - 2014 Detroit Auto Show live photos

Another hit was the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Initial testing has shown that the
car

is already significantly faster around a race track than the last Corvette ZR1, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering it was developed alongside the latest Corvette C7.R race car, with which it shares its resemblance.
2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class live photos, 2014 Detroit Auto Show preview

It wasn’t all about insane sports cars. The all-new 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class also made its world debut in Detroit and once again showed that Mercedes’ new designs, both for vehicle exteriors and interiors, are a step above the competition. The new C-Class really is like the baby S-Class it aims to be.
Nissan Sport Sedan Concept - 2014 Detroit Auto Show live photos

Another hit was Nissan’s Sport Sedan concept, which previews the automaker’s upcoming 2015 Maxima. We’re quite impressed with the design, which could pass for a four-door GT-R. We just hope the production model it spawns stays true to the concept.
2015 Ford F-150

Although it’s neither a luxury nor performance vehicle, unless we’re talking SVT-enhanced, the 2015 Ford F-150
pickup truck

that bowed at Detroit this week is still an impressive vehicle. Thanks to a full aluminum body, the 2015 F-150 weighs around 700 pounds less than its predecessor. Ford, hurry up and bring us a new generation of the SVT Raptor.
2015 BMW M4 live photos, 2014 Detroit Auto Show

One of the coolest cars on show this week was the 2015 BMW M4, the replacement for the M3 Coupe. The car looks downright sinister in this shade of black and should continue to deliver on the race track thanks to its lighter weight and increased engine performance. Yep, we’re talking an extra 100 pound-feet of torque over the old M3 Coupe.
2015 Lexus RC F live photos, 2014 Detroit Auto Show

Making its debut not too far from the M4 was one of the car’s direct rivals, the 2015 Lexus RC F. The Japanese sportster sticks with a good ol’ V-8 engine that will deliver in excess of 450 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and its aerodynamic elements have been inspired by Lexus’ LFA supercar.
Volvo Concept XC Coupe live photos, 2014 Detroit Auto Show

Photos don’t do Volvo’s new Concept XC Coupe justice, as the concept’s proportions and details make what appears to be quite a simple design rather beautiful. The good news is that the Concept XC Coupe previews the styling of the automaker’s upcoming 2015 XC90. We can’t wait.
2014 Porsche 911 Targa live photos, 2014 Detroit Auto Show

Porsche continues to impress us with its variations of the 911, despite the car pretty much looking like every other 911 of the past 50 years. The latest is the 2014 Porsche 911 Targa, which at the touch of a button sees its roof's center section slide back and stow itself behind the rear seats, keeping the car's sleek lines intact and maintaining the utility so appreciated by 911 owners.
2015 Ford Mustang live photos, 2014 Detroit Auto Show

We got our first look up close at the 2015 Ford Mustang in Detroit this week and have plenty of live photos to show you. The clean-sheet design of both the fastback coupe and the convertible variant features a distinct Mustang flavor thanks to the long sculpted hood, short rear deck and tri-bar tail-lights.That’s it folks, but don’t forget to visit our dedicated hub for our complete 2014 Detroit Auto Show cove

You're Welcome `Lou > I'm happy that you enjoyed & I hope some of our member's do also.

I like the majority of the above vehicles, but from all of the above, the only one that I could afford is the new Mustang. The more I read about them, the more I want to test drive one...the 4banger, the six & the V8. The like that they have the independent suspension on the 2015 I would also want to test drive the new Camaro's...

It's a great dream...Now, I'll just have to settle for a 4wheel all terrain vehicle for the islands & pretend I'm driving a New Z06 (LOL)

Bentley Confirms North American Debut of New Continental GT V8 S

JANUARY 2014 CATEGORIES: BENTLEY, BENTLEY CONTINENTAL, DETROIT AUTO SHOW, NEW CARS |

As a niche luxury firm with a limited lineup, Bentley feels no need to debut a brand new car or concept at every international motor show. As such, the only news it will have for 2014 Detroit motor show goers is the North American premiere of the Continental GT V8 S range with a more potent 4.0-liter turbocharged mill.First displayed at last September's Frankfurt motor show, the Continental GT V8 S represents a step up from the base GT V8, in terms of performance, handling and features.
The "S" model is fitted with an uprated twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine producing 521 hp (528PS) and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque, or 27hp/ps and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) respectively more than the standard Continental GT V8. The package is complemented with an 8-speed automatic transmission upgraded with an S mode, tuned chassis, 20-inch wheels and new exterior and interior trim bits.
Bentley claims the GT V8 S coupe dispatches the 0-60 mph (96km/h) sprint in 4.3 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.5s) before reaching a top speed of 192 mph (309 km/h).
Joining the Continental GT V8 S at Bentley's Cobo Center display will be the latest model year versions of the Flying Spur and the Mulsanne luxury sedans.

The top 7 cars from the 2014 Detroit Auto Show

From wild concepts to cars that you'll actually get to drive in the near future

By Ben Lucareli January 16, 2014 / Photos by Chris Cantle

Toyota FT-1

Arguably the most lust-worthy car at the entire 2014 'Show, Toyota's FT-1 concept could very well be the next-gen Supra that we've all been waiting for. At its Detroit debut, Toyota made it clear that this car's focus is on performance. With that in mind, and looking at all that aero work, we're expecting it to be damn good to drive—if it makes its way to production.

Chris CantleChevrolet Corvette Z06 and C7.R

We named the Corvette C7 our performance car of the year for a reason—it's absolutely fantastic. Take the car that we tested, add a supercharger and a laundry list of other mods, the result is the 2015 Corvette Z06. It's essentially a road-legal version of Chevy's Le Mans entrant, the C7.R, which is equally awesome.

Chris CantleKia GT4 Stinger Concept

Kia's rear-wheel drive, turbocharged, 315-horsepower GT4 Stinger Concept is a car that Kia needs, and a car that we want. A combination of light weight, a six-speed manual transmission, and the impressive suspension setup and brakes make this thing sound like a serious enthusiast's machine. Not to mention, it sounds as good as it looks, too.

Chris CantlePorsche 911 Targa

Porsche has obviously taken cues from the Targa style of the 1960s and '70s with the introduction of 2014 911 Targa, given its glass Targa lid and anodized aluminum Targa bar. You can have it in all-wheel drive 4 or 4S form, with a 3.4- or 3.8-liter flat-six. The coolest part of the new Targa is the lid's Transformer-like operation, which you can do with the push of a button. The superb drive of a 991 911 with a Targa roof? Yes, please.

Chris CantleNissan IDx NISMO and IDx Freeflow

What we thought we were getting from Nissan at Detroit this year was a concept update for the 370Z. What we got instead were the retro-chic IDx concepts, which are even better, in a way. The IDx NISMO will likely be powered by the same 1.6-liter, direct-injected turbo that you'll find in the Juke, meaning that it ought to make for a nice drive. The edgy bodywork, side stripes, and retro gauges on both cars hark back to the Datsun 510, which is also a very good thing. We dig 'em.

Zach BowmanFord F150

Some impressive weight shedding thanks to smart use of aluminum, along with a new Ecoboost V6 were the most impressive parts of the 2015 F150 debut. I'm talking 700-pounds of weight shedding, at that. Equally impressive was the fact that Ford managed to sneak a 2015 F150 into the Baja 1000 last year, right under everyone's noses. If the new F-Series can handle the Baja, it can probably handle anything you're likely to throw at it, too.

Chris CantleMercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG

Just when you think Merc's AMG wing can't get any crazier, it turns up at Detroit with its GLA 45 AMG. It's a 335 hp, turbocharged, all-wheel drive crossover that will launch itself to 60 mph in under five seconds—just a touch slower than CLA 45, which we love. I'm predicting that the GLA will be a good drive, too, given it's massive brakes and AMG-tuned suspension. A bit wild, but hey—that's the AMG way.

Some nice looking cars from some unexpected places.

I can't guarantee the Toyota will "water down" that FT-1 a hell of a lot before they ever put it into production like they did the FR-S. Production is highly unlikely.

Why can't Nissan actually build beautiful cars like they can obviously design. I like both the Nismo and that cleverly named Sport Sedan for their smooth, balanced and original design. Instead, they give a cobbled together Frankenstein designs like Juke and the GTR - very ugly unbalanced cars.

I'd also really like to see Kia build that GT4 Stinger (bad name). Kia is really edgy and I like pretty much everything they build now.
