Tony Stewart is on high rev for his upcoming Nextel Prelude to the Dream presented by Old Spice, which he will present at his ½-mile dirt track, the Eldora Speedway, in Rossburg, Ohio on Wednesday night, June 6. HBO Pay-Per-View will carry the event live at 7 p.m. ET., and the proceeds will benefit the Victory Junction Gang Camp and the Tony Stewart Foundation.

Stewart and 25 others will race dirt late models on the lightning-fast, high-banked track. Nextel Cup stars Jeff Gordon, Juan Pablo Montoya, Kenny Schrader, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin and
Kevin Harvick will be among the entrants. Car owner Ray Evernham and old-time stock car racer Red Farmer will also don their helmets.
The Eldora Speedway seats 16,600 and lawn seating is available for another 4,000 fans, and Stewart hopes to pack the track. "I think the race will be really huge," he said at Dover International Speedway. "The race presents a unique opportunity for
Nextel Cup drivers to race on a short-track. It is a neat concept, and I want to make it fun for these guys and the fans."
Stewart is thrilled that HBO has signed on to provide nationwide coverage and noted that viewers can sign up for it on a pay-per-view basis. The one-time fee will be $25.
As the track owner at Eldora and part owner of the Macon Speedway, Stewart said Mother Nature is the biggest obstacle to a dirt-track promoter. "Springtime is a very nervous time for us track owners," he said. "Weather is three-fourths of my worry and driving the car will be the best part of it for me."
While
Nextel Cup[b] series competes only on paved tracks, Stewart believes one or more dirt-tracks should be considered for the schedule. "Syracuse (New York) and DuQuoin (Illinois) along with the Eldora Speedway are three tracks that NASCAR should consider, but none of these tracks could accommodate large crowds of fans."
Stewart first raced at Eldora when he was 20 years old, and said it was a big learning experience for him. "I was scared to death and asked (dirt-track veteran) Jack Hewitt how to do it, and he told me 'If you have the right set-up, just run it wide open.'" Stewart did just that but later on Hewitt said he wasn't serious about his guidance.
Harvick demolished his car the first time he raced at Eldora and Stewart paid the

RE: Should NASCAR RACE ON `DIRT ?

Dirt racing is where most of the NASCAR drivers get their starts. kind of like the Minor League of NASCAR. so Nascar should stay like it is, and let the younger guys get there starts without the big names coming in and stealing the show.

I am for it......

At least for this event. It is going to a great cause.......

I think if Tony had it his way when they bring back IROC, you will see them at a dirt track....

i know what you mean by saying to keep the nascar driver's out of it because they're experienced and would beat the younger guyz, but i think it would be cool to watch a race with just the nascar guyz in it and see what and how they do :)

Outlaws are very kewl, but I personally like Sprint Cars better.

Yeah, the wings keep them more nailed to the ground even though the Outlaws are the same cars and they still have crazy crashes.

Outlaws have a little more solid racing than the sprinters and race a little longer.

The Sprint cars are a little more unpredictable. The races are shorter and crazier and they have a dozen or more races a night sometimes.

RE: Should NASCAR RACE ON `DIRT ?

Nascar over the last - what 30 years andprobably longer-has traditionally had a single body template used for the cars. Granted some were designed for short track and others for the superspeedways, they are roughly the same car.

Now that Nascar has moved direction once again to the COT (and they'll be damned if they give that project up) I really can't see that car doing so hot on a dirt track. Get some divits in the dirt and the front spoilers will be ripping off left and right.

That and I think Tony Stewarts head might explode. Could you see Nascar officials calling a caution for a fist sized rock in the dirt and calling it "debris." I don't think Tony could handle it. :)
