New Computer?

I've been thinking about getting a new laptop for a while now. This one is going on 6 years old and still works quite well. I bought it in april of 2007 not long after vista came out but i have since upgraded to windows 7 ultimate. Attached is my dxdiag, what do you guys think? Should i get a new laptop or keep using this one for a while?

I stand corrected, the dxdiag is over the 19.5kb .txt limit (that needs changing imo) Bare with me then i'll copy and paste it into here:facepalm:

Id upgrade to a newer one if it was me, man i really need a laptop lol

The_Maniac 07-05-2012 09:50 PM

IMO opinion, depends what you do with the laptop....
- Are you wanting to play newer games that this laptop barely supports?
- Are the current apps you want to run more demanding on CPU/Memory/BUS speeds?
- Or do you just have the "I want a new laptop itch but everything is fine"?

Once you identify WHY you want/need a new laptop, that will help best make up your mind. Admittedly, a 6 year old laptop I think has served a good lifespan, if you have the money and it's no longer performing as well with today's applications, then there is NO shame in retiring a 6 year old laptop you have been happy with.

lougreen03 07-05-2012 11:00 PM

Mine is about that old and I just bought it used last year. It works fine for what I need tho. Keep in mind you may be able to sell you old laptop for 150 to 250 depending on the condition. Mine is a dv6000 series too and i picked it up for 200 with 2 gig of ram 100 gig hd i think. I do need a new battery tho.

Hi `Keane,
With your computer knowledge, can't you built one the way that you want it ?

Your thread is like a foreign language to me, but I should learn more about the internals of computers & what they do ?

Maniac `Jason posted some sound advice for deciding..
I just suggest that you should get what your can afford $ ?
Let us know...

Leprechaun93 07-06-2012 09:20 PM

lol space:rolleyes:

Right now my main use is web browsing, music etc. But i do play games ocasionally and they perform accectably. My main thought is just that this one is getting old and before problems start occuring maybe i should replace it. I can justify replacing it and at the same time i dont see the need:rolleyes:

MonteSSS 07-07-2012 02:47 AM

Mac? Is that like asking us if we go to Mcdonalds? is that a slang for Mcdonalds?

I bought a new ASUS in 2010 and this year we bought the mrs a new ACER....

Both are great machines!

I have to admit, I know someone who has his own comp business.
So we ended up buying them whole sale..

However, These machines Retail for right around $350 to $425 a peice....

They have all the bells and whistles. includeing 145Gb hard drives...
(Which is more than big enough for what we use them for)
Picture,movies, Music etc....

I will admit...
I had a HP desktop that I used for 12 yrs til the power supply finally took a dump and was a lot cheaper to have a new one built vs replaceing the power supply....lol

So i guess it all boils down to what you want out of it...
The general rule of thumb is:
Once you buy the top notch comp of the day...
6 months later its old hat...
So My recommendation to you is....

As long as it does what you need it to do: Why replace it..??

You know the ole saying:
If it aint broke.....Dont fix it!

nitehawkjcb 07-07-2012 06:06 PM

If your computer is running good for you, keep it. But beware - those DV6000s were notorious for having motherboard failures.

And Mac is overpriced junk.

Leprechaun93 07-07-2012 08:37 PM

Mac i will never BUY i'll take one free:rotfl: but otherwise no. I'll probably hold off for a little while. John any preventative maintenance to protect the motherboard or they just decide to go?
