Meadowdale Memories (and) NMCOA Mini Meet
 

Saturday, September 27, 2008, was a GORGEOUS weather day in the greater Chicagoland area.


I spent most of the day in Stillman Valley IL for the SV car show that featured the 2008 National Monte Carlo Owners Association Chicagoland Mini-Meet. The preliminary count (John will give a final count soon) was said to be about 21 people from the NMCOA in attendance...which, if that is correct, may be the LARGEST attendance at a NMCOA Mini Meet to date. I HOPE that this successful Mini Meet will spark MORE area people to join us in the upcoming Chicagoland Gatherings....

The organizers of the SV Car Show were wonderful and the show was awesome! John introduced me to Sandy, who was very appreciative that the NMCOA chose their car show to host the Mini Meet.

We had all but one Monte Carlo generation represented (the third gen, 1978-1980)...which would've been represented had I driven my '79 MC instead of my '87 MC LS. BUT...I drove the '87 MC LS because I knew that if I had stopped at the garage to pick up one of my older 4 MCs, I most-likely wouldn't have gone to the Mini Meet, opting to drive my older 4 MCs instead...given the awsome weather we had.

After the show, a bunch of us went to dinner at a local restaurant in Rochelle IL, the site of the "host hotel" for the NMCOA Mini Meet. We had a wonderful time of food, conversation and laughter.



BUT...along with not driving my older 4 MCs, this Mini Meet also meant that I missed the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Meadowdale International Raceway (now Raceway Woods) in Carpentersville IL:

Originally, the 50th anniversary was scheduled for September 13-14, but thanks to the all-day rain Saturday, followed by the most-of-the-day rain Sunday (remnants of Hurricane Ike), it was re-scheduled for September 27:

Sunday, September 28, I drove Dad to see the newly-refurbished Pure Gasoline silo...
