Leprechaun93 04-03-2013 06:57 PM

No jen then don't, especially if you want a cai, you've got work to do. Tps I can't really tell what im looking at here or what you're really talking about.

small hole that was drilled at some point by my uncle why my car has a decent intake soun( red Circle)

monte carlo 3831 04-03-2013 07:20 PM

I really doubt that small of a hole would make that much of a difference....... post a sound/vid clip.........

tps221 04-03-2013 07:29 PM

That's the best vid i have you cant hear the whine well. its much louder in person might possibly be my tranny as well but i thought it was weird someone drilled a hole

Taz 04-03-2013 07:33 PM

I don't think a small hole like that is going to make a huge difference. But my question is why did he have to drill a drain hole to begin with? Did he go mud bogging with the thing or something?

tps221 04-03-2013 07:37 PM

no. it did drive from boston to Arizona, Maybe so sand would build up less in Arizona? I'm gonna ask next time I'm home

tps221 04-03-2013 07:39 PM

the wine is more pronounced now under hard throttle with the new Spark plugs. Just another reason to do a good 0-60 Vid soon. the whine is in tune with engine RPM The higher the RPM the louder it is. Before you say alternator i i experience no light or power fade except with door locks.

Leprechaun93 04-03-2013 08:13 PM

Agreed, that small of a hole shouldn't make any difference. And if you have a whine then you have something causing it because you shouldn't have a whine.

Taz 04-03-2013 08:21 PM

Unless you got a turbo or supercharger hiding somewhere.

"My car used to have this annoying whine. But then I broke up with her." -- anonymous :rotfl:

tps221 04-03-2013 08:22 PM

no whine unless you hammer it into high RPM Trans fluid is fine oil is fine when i first started driving it my mechanic said the tranny was weak but all issues have disappeared all belts are good my A/C Compressor is the only abnormal thing. it has always whined for me it sounds like i have a muffled supercharger. normal driving or cruising no whine.

Sign me up for a turbo charged 3.1  Especially if all I have to do is drill a small hole :rotfl:

tps221 04-03-2013 08:24 PM

you really here it when i let off in high rpm before it up shifts

tps221 04-03-2013 08:25 PM

turn up the volume high on the vid i posted you can hear it

I'm not noticing any whine.

ZIPPY02 04-03-2013 08:34 PM

You can get to the bottom of it by putting some duct tape over the hole and seeing if the whine persists or is gone when your out and about the next time.... :) :)

tps221 04-03-2013 08:38 PM

but I like the whine lmao i was just doing some clean up and noticed the hole and was like WTF i didnt do that

tps221 04-03-2013 08:43 PM

ok Vid TOMORROW Windows open and that should let you hear her whine the bass in my system in my room cloaks it so I am assuming you have the same issue ill catch my little spooling type noise tomorrow

red04montels 04-03-2013 09:04 PM

That's not going to change the sound at all, that looks about stock as far as how open it is also.

A whine wouldn't come from the intake either, the intake just makes it a deeper noise.

I would close the hole to be honest.

the last 0-50 jump the whine is very noticable

Leprechaun93 04-04-2013 10:45 AM

I heard it in that video, I heard it in the first video. Like I said before, there shouldn't be a whine.

Red Nightmare 04-04-2013 11:00 AM

My co-worker made a suggestion, maybe its your alternator?

When I bought a new alternator from work for my last car it had a noticable whine to it..

It could still be producing power, just being noisy for some reason?

I guess for that fact, it could be any of the the belt driven components wearing out.

Honestly, I still can't hear any whine that seems troubling ...

tps221 04-04-2013 06:01 PM

the car is on it's 4th alternator of life it's not weak currently and it looks fine inside my uncle warned me it burns through them so he claimed... belt never slips so I'm Assuming the belt is fine.

Last pic is of the pcv that was replaced for a leak. could it just be because of my rear main Seal leak

Leprechaun93 04-04-2013 06:05 PM

4 alternators? That seems excessive..

zzapultimate 04-04-2013 06:11 PM

Cars shouldn't burn through alternators..

tps221 04-04-2013 06:48 PM

Well when the security system wouldn't let me start the car he said i killed it so im guessing he was fooled by a bad dealer a couple times the pass key resistor on the key was worn and a little dirty but none the less not the origninal alternator

What does the alternator have to do with the Pass Key system?

tps221 04-04-2013 06:59 PM

pass key would malfunction. he couldnt start it would have it towed to a chevy dealer they would tell him the alternator had seized so he would have them replace it.

And I'm guessing after the alternator was replaced it still didn't start? Considering the two systems have nothing to do with each other.

tps221 04-04-2013 07:09 PM

they prolly cleaned it with a wipe but he did have it happen multiple times i had it happen 3 times before i went and had a new one made i now use that
