I hate dealing in money matters with people I don't know or can't tell if I should trust them.

Sold the Rav4 on Craigslist. Was my daughters first car. I liked it because it was sure footed 4WD and mostly gutless. Served her well.

I listed all it's goods & bads, left it parked with a for sale sign in common areas (shopping centers, the high school) where it could be seen. For sale sign had an email address different from the Craigslist one, so most Craigslisters would be sent to look at it and reply if interested.

Scams like Cowboy6622 spoke of were ignored. It attracted mostly families with a teen girl looking for a car for the teen. Did have a few asking to make payments, I declined.

A family friend spotted it parked and called. Wanted it for their daughter, yep another girls first car. Gave them about 800 break on the cost to put away in case the timing belt broke before 180K. Wouldn't do that to anyone else.

Good news! Tonight, we sold my wife's '94 Grand Am with 177K on it! First guy that was serious enough to look at it bought in cash for our asking price!

Amanda and I are absolutely thrilled! We built our ask price with buffer room to let us haggle a little and still land on an acceptable value. No haggling, this guy took it the way it was.

All in all, not too bad for a Craigslist posting (that and driving the car with signs, but I know this guy found it via Craigslist).

WAHOO!!

Congratulations! Those with some good common sense can always sell a car on craigslist. I always post a little bit more than I am willing to take just because some people (myself included) are always going to try to atleast get a couple hundred off.
