First Chevrolet FWD Car

I recently came across this video and i found it to be an interesting piece of GM/Chevrolet history. Many believe the Chevy Citation was the first FWD for GM, but from my research, this is not the case, it was a 1966 Oldsmobile. But the Citation is probably more well known.
Have anything fun or interesting to share about the Citation? Comment and share!

One of the first vehicles I vaguely remember my parents having was a blue 1980 Citation. From what I was told, my parents needed a different car because of, well, me. So my dad traded in his 2nd generation Camaro for a brand new Citation. There was a story about why that car reached it's end (I think I heard something about wrong oil that seized the engine). Later on my parents had a burgundy Citation and a white Pontiac Phoenix (the Pontiac sibling).

Since growing up, my family basically had three of these cars, and they are rare to see these days, I get a kick when I do see them out and about OR at car shows. There have been a few that show at the GM Nationals in Carlisle (one of them put a L67 Supercharged 3800 into his Citation). I recently watched a TV series called "In The Dark" and one of the main characters drove a blue Citation. I got a kick out of that as well. It was such an unusual car to appear in a modern TV show.

I also recall, I think in the 90's MAYBE early 2000's there was a car commercial where it showed someone walking up to a beat up/rusted Citation. Turns out, it was a clever looking car cover hiding the car being advertised underneath. Unfortunately, I could not find that commercial to share.

Back in the 70's my boss had one of them Olds Tornado's he was proud of the that thing. His was a Gold colored one, it had all the whistles and bells too. I am thinking the Cadillac El Dorado had front wheel drive as well at one time.

My college dorm room mate had a 1st gen Toronado too. They've got a very passionate following from owners. Wish he wouldve let me drive it, but we werent close enough - I did take a couple rides in it though. Seemed like it wouldve been a pretty classy car back in the day.

I dont think Ive known anyone with a Citation though. My parents were G body nuts for some reason - they owned nothing but G bodies my whole childhood (I think 4 or 5 in total as 2 got destroyed, 1 while I was in the backseat by a drunk driver) up until they got the 92 Caprice / B body.

Well back in 1980 the company I worked for had supplied the sales force with Cars so I had a Chrysler Le baron that year and in 1983 I got a new ride but it was a Ford Pickup.

The other reps got Citations and we had to go from Nebraska to Arkansas to visit a manufacturing plant for steel works. The other guys drove their citations and they weren't very roomy. 3 to a Car was about all it could do. It snowed and we could get around better than the native folks.

This really took me back, we had a Citation when I was a kid. So many memories watching this.
