Default Emissions Problems

My State/County has such strict emissions rules that I cannot even put a cat back exhaust or it will not pass emissions they are passing a bill that that keeps people from putting anything but factory parts on your engine/exhaust. It is so strict that people running dual pipes out the back, and the car came factory stock with one, wont pass inspection. How do I fight this and who would help. I want to Modify my Monte and keep it on the street.

You have very few options. SEMA lobbies the states and feds for the rights of auto enthusiasts. You could join SEMA and help support their efforts. The second thing is to call your local legislators and let them know of your disapproval and also get out and vote. Your last option is to get your car inspected and then put your cat back system on. Make sure you do it in such a way that you can swap it back out when you have to reinspect.

Believe it or not it is Missouri. But, the strict emissions is due to my county. 10 miles south there are no restrictions what so ever. I found out when I went to get a quote on instillation time for the exhaust system, I dont have the time do it myself. The owner of the shop, who is a friend of mine, told me about it. The bill that makes it so strict is not passed yet but they are trying to make it pass in next 2 years. O and it only affects cars 1996 and up.

That sounds like a crazy stupid law. Thank goodness we don't have anything like that in IL. That is one of the first mods I do when I buy a car - aftermarket catback or mufflers. I like em loud LOL!

Cat-Back exhausts DO NOTHING for emissions. I could see a law not being able to change out the Catalytic, but a cat-back?
