different generations of monte carlos
hi, could someone please explain to me what they are, i've always been a chevy man, i had a 76 monte for about a week, before that a 75 caprice classic (first car) my parents bought from a friend for $500 and it was very cool, my brother actually took it to the prom. i remember when i was an 18 year old punk that my buddy had somewhere around an 80 or 81 hmm not sure, but it was sweet, we raced a guy and all i remember is the loud exhaust from the car, that was all i could hear, it was sweet. but could someone please explain the different generations of monte carlos, years etc., i have a 2006 and not sure what gen i have, thanks

You have a 6th gen, according to wikipedia. Good details here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Monte_Carlo Some say 06 is 7th gen, but I don't buy that either. If we added a new generation everytime they changed engine and front clips, how many generations would there be? |
Its been argued to the ground whether the 06-07 are 7th Gen or and updated 6th Gen. From what i have read, you can literally take the front end sheet metal and interchange them. Since there is no total redesign, then that would suggest that its a 6th Gen. Some have even called them a 6.5 Gen. but yet still a 6th Gen.
If you looked back at the 2nd Gens, you can see there were some changes to the front also, but that didn't make them into their own gen. Just updated faces. |
1st gen = 70-72
2nd gen = 73-77 3rd gen = 78-80 4th gen = 81-88 5th gen = 95-99 6th gen = 00-05 6.5 gen = 06-07 |
