Chevy’s New Cars Know When They Need Repairs
(Get Service NOW > Hurry)

Daniel HowleyTechnology Reporter‎
January‎ ‎‎2015

Hi MCF Member's, I'm a Tech Reporter, reporting to you about the below

So long, mysterious “check engine” light.
Chevy is about to fix one of the worst things about owning a car, by giving its vehicles the ability to self-diagnose problems with their parts before you even notice that something is wrong.

Using what it calls its “prognostic technology,” Chevy says a handful of its 2016 vehicles equipped with built-in 4G LTE data connections will be able to continuously stream information about specific parts to GM’s secure servers. Those same servers will then use software to determine if your vehicle is running at 100 percent or if something needs to be fixed.

The goal is to help give car owners a better sense of how their vehicles are performing. With the technology installed, Chevy owners will no longer be shocked by repair costs when they take their cars into the shop, because they’ll already have an idea of what’s wrong with the vehicle.

So far Chevy’s new service is available on 2016 Equinox, Tahoe, Suburban, Corvette, Silverado, and Silverado HD models with certain powertrain options, though other vehicles will begin to receive the technology throughout the 2016 model year.

For now, the prognostic technology will only be able to detect issues with vehicles’ batteries, fuel pumps, and starter motors, but the automaker said other parts will be covered in future models.
The only downside to the feature is that it requires you to buy a Chevy vehicle with a built-in 4G LTE connection, which is an added expense both upfront and month to month. But if it gives you a better idea of what that weird squeaking noise your car has been making is, it just might be worth it.

Beyond its predictive technology, Chevy also announced that drivers with built-in OnStar services will now be able to check basic vehicle information from their smartphones in real time.
That means you’ll be able to see your car’s tire pressure, oil life, and other important vehicle information on your smartphone whenever you’re away from your car. That could be a huge help for drivers who want to ensure that their vehicles are running at their best whenever they get behind the wheel.

All these advancements are greatly appreciated, but we’re all still waiting for one thing: flying cars. Get on it, Chevy!
Oh, what are you guys smoking ?
