What a bunch of BS! Gas stations should not even be allowed to use credit cards. My (evil) ex works for a MasterCard fraud investigation company so I can tell you that probably 9 out 10 stolen credit cards are tested at a gas stations before additional fraudulent use. This is because it is "safe" to check the stolen card, and ensure it has not been reported stolen, at a gas pump where you needn't do much to identify yourself and run little risk of actually being caught if the card has been reported. Debit cards are more secure, so I don't know what gas stations would have against them

I haven't heard of that around here yet, but I also run my debit card as a credit card. When I do that I earn points for my card and get rewards.

I've never heard of that...but I almost never put my pin in anywhere except for the ATM at my bank. I always use my debit card as credit everywhere. I pay cash for next to nothing.

I only use credit cards. But if I had to use my debit card, I'd use it as a credit card.

All the Shell's around here do the same thing. Just hit "No" when it asks if its a debit card and it will go through as credit. It comes out of your account the same way.

Still works (or did saturday) in Ohio.

I know many stations have gone to the signs that read if you use a Visa or Mastercard they may charge you anywhere from $0.50 - $0.75 for the transaction.

i've been using my debit card to pay for gas the past year. the other day i could've sworn i used my debit but it didn't ask for a pin. usually there's no fees for the business when you use debit over credit.

This is the first I'm hearing of gas stations not accepting debit. I'm gonna have to start bringing extra cash with me to cover the cost of my fill up just in case.

Here in Windsor, most of the gas stations still allow you to pay the guy inside the building AFTER you pump your gas. Paying at the pump must be paid in advance though. I always use my debit card at the gas station. Haven't had a problem yet.

A lot of place aren beginning to change over to credit only. You can still use your debit card but you have to run it as credit. Multiple issues, ones already mentioned like merchant fees, make companies decide to deny debit purchases. It eliminates the a lot of hassles and as someone else said it is much safer and more secure to run as credit.
