Can Anyone help? Need info on tires &Rims

Hey Guys, [/b] I'm new on the post but not new with the Monte's. I have owned oh, about 6 over the years from 70 to 77. I have a question for all of you andhope you can help. I have just purchased a 1976 with 7,000 original miles. Yes, I said 7,000. THis car looks as if it were in a bubble. The only item that has been changed on the car is the battery. The car still smells new after 32 years. [/b][/b] My question is: I have a set of 15x8 Crager Rims that I would like to stick on her. Does anyone know if It will be a big deal to put on the 8inch and not 7 inch on the car? And if this will be fine what size tire should I go with? I'm looking at BF Goodrich 225-60-15 whic has a height of 25.6 inches high and the other tire would be a 235-60-15. The height on this is 26.8[/b] [/b] I hope someone can help![/b]

7 to a 8 inch is no big deal.
Problem I would be looking at is the back spacing, offset the same. If not then you may run into trouble.
As far as changing tire size, again no big deal, but speedo will be off if its not the same diameter as the stock ones. You have to think in total circumference because a inch doesn't sound like much, but in circumference it'll throw a speedo of quite a bit.

Thanks for the response. I wasn't sure if the 8 inch widthwould be to wide. This car currently has the "original" GR 7015's with no dry rot cracks.I'm not sure what the height is yet. The car will be delivered at the end of the week and I can then measure them. I'm just not sure which tire would look or fit the best the 25.6 or the 26.8. No one seems to be able to cross ref the tire sizes from the origianl to BF Goodrich.

A lot of times, small tire shops are helpful rather than the bigger shops. (Belle Tire, Discount, shops like that) These are the closest tire sizes that I could find:

P195/75R14
P205/70R14
P225/60R15
These all have 25.5 inch diameter. A little smaller, but it is a start.

A G70-15 is 27.5 in diameter.

Thanks Guy's.. If a G70-15is 27.5 then the next closest tire would be the 235-16-15 which is 26.8 inches talland 1 inch smaller in height. Because the rims are 8 inch instead of 7, the width may make up for the 1 inch height difference in looks.Plus I will have no problem with the tirerubbing, which was a concern with the rim being 8 inches wide and not 7 inches wide.

You guys have been very helpful. Thanks a Bunch!

I'm looking at BF Goodrich 225-60-15 whic has a height of 25.6 inches high and the other tire would be a 235-60-15.

The 225/60 should be close to 25.6 inches tall. The 235/60 is close to that. I know cause I had a set for about 24 hours about 2 years ago.

I wanted a set of 235/70/15s on my '57 150 Handyman 2-door Wagon. But Tire Rack said these were 28 inches tall. I can get a 26 or 27 inch tall tire in the rear wheel wells with no problems but a 28 inch tall tire would contact the front of the wheel well.

Like I mentioned I bought a set of 235/60/15s and once I got them realized they were way too short for what I wanted. So I had to order ore tires and ship these back.

I settled for 225/70/15s for the back of my Wagon but other fellow Chevy Talk members told me the 235/70/15s are only 27 inches tall. Not 28 like Tire Racks chart lists them as being.

Oh, and the 225/70/15s are on the back on a set of 8 inch Chevy rally wheels.
