81 monte carlo and crazy question
 

I'm sorry if this sounds crazy, but it's something that I have wondered about for a long time.
My first car was a 81 monte carlo when I was 16, which would have been around 1991. It drove great for a long time (months to maybe a year), then the breaks started to fail. I would be driving, the pedal would go right to the floor and I would have no breaks. This happened several times, at least 4. Each time my stepdad would fix them. He told me it was some defect with monte carlo breaks and they had a tendancy to do that. Now he would work on his own vehicles so he knew about cars.
We did not get along and had a lot of problems.
Thinking back, now lots of years later, this seems ridiculous to me and wanted to hear from people who know monte carlos:
Was my stepdad trying to kill me?

Wow that's kind crazy? The problem with faulty Brakes if you don't fix them you can not only injure yourself but other drivers you operate on the road with.
Brake failures in my opinion are caused by lack of proper maintenance, personally I rarely use them and when I do it is a very light touch.
However I have not heard of a problem with them over the years. I had and 85 Monte Carlo. It had Disc's in the front and drums in the rear.
I used the 85 Monte for a company car I was a traveling sale rep. I think I replaced them some where around 92K I got the car with 5K on it.

When I was 16 I had watched my Dad preform countless maintenance repairs to the cars he owned and also those of friends of his. So I knew a little about it when I needed help. Even with today's cars I can speak with the service guys about what needs to be done and they know that I know.
A few years back my son purchased a Ford pickup truck and he asked me about changing the spark plugs.
I youtube it first before I gave him and answer and told him to get a pro to do it. Next time buy a Chevy. I said.
recently he wanted the headlights changed in his Traverse. The Garage wanted over $200.00 to do this. I found out why when I youtube'd it that was difficult but my Grandson and I worked on it and we got the bad one done, I left him the other side to do him self. Like that will ever happen.
