5th gen search

as you may have seen in the daily blog i am in the market for a new(used) car, we are thinking a 5th gen, any sugestions? things i should be sure to check out? common problem areas?

i am hoping for a 98-99 z34 but will be considering all

Just check for rust under the gas door area and the rear control arm mount areas. There are the general problems with the 3800s like the intake gaskets. Window switches go bad as well. There really arent alot of problems with these cars.

I don't know how close you are to this Monte, but it might be a Z34 to check out: 1999 Chevy Monte Carlo

I really do recommend the 98-99 Z34. Mine has a little over 160k miles on it and I'm cranking out more then twice the stock hp. The only issues I've had with the engine is that I've had to replace the water pump twice (easy job), and I replaced the LIM gasket (a little more difficult). Other then that, my window switch has an occasional bug and sometimes the brake lights don't want to work (happens randomly).

No issues whatsoever with the tranny though. This Monte has been the best car I've ever had.

I think you have to actually step on the brake pedal for the brake lights to work.
LOL

Like said before... the window switches, rust on gas door, 8 haven't experienced the rust on the rear suspension at alll...

I do however have some advice for zipper. I had a 95 z34 that did the brake light thing... I soon learned that it was intermittent after I hit my left turn signal ( hard to believe, but caars do have those nowadays)

It was the multifunction switch going out.

That 99 was OBO, so throw your offer of 2500 and see if he bites.

Don't settle, try to get the 3800 :) :)
