What are you doing to make it better ?

Do you know someone that needs help ?
Can you share/help them ?

I thought I was having a difficult time, but I read articles & facts like above & it reminds me to be thankful for what I do have, then what I don't have...

Do you have a solution to the problem ?

Hard times getting harder

The number of Americans living in poverty has been on the rise since the Great Recession, as many households have seen their incomes drop and their debts mount in the past few years.
In total, more than 15% of the population lived in poverty in 2010, the highest percentage since 1993, according to the most recent data from the Census Bureau. To put that in perspective, that means more than 46 million people fell below the poverty line, defined as $22,314 for a family of four. If you factor in the income spent on expenses like medical costs, child care and mortgage payments, the number of Americans whose remaining income falls below the poverty line is closer to 50 million, or roughly 16% of the population.
As severe as this sounds, some regions in the U.S. are much worse off. In November, the census released a breakdown of the poverty rate in every county in the U.S. in 2010, which showed dozens of counties where more than a third of the population lives in poverty and a handful whose overall poverty rates were closer to 50%.

MainStreet combed through the data to find the 15 counties with the highest overall poverty rates in the country. Click ahead to find out what they are, ranked from best to worst, along with census data on the childhood poverty rate and the median household income in each.http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XwwdVNPqQZ...00/poverty.jpg

Hi `Lou, Florida did not make the list either, but there are poor & homeless everywhere in our state :( It makes me sad 4-Sure :(, but also thankful that I have my basic needs in life.

Our government needs to bring back programs like the WPA & CCC & use our abandoned military bases to house & train those that are in need (?)

Its crazy how times have gotten

Space 01-17-2012 09:04 AM

Yes `Mike (JG), to me is very sad...& I sure hope that we can find a solution to make it better for `all.

I think our country must first take care of their problems, before they go elsewhere & spend..

We use to be the richest country on the planet..& we should not have our citizens going without food & shelter...:(

It is a reminder to `all to be thankful for what they do have..
I hope my words/posts/thread inspires member's to help those in need `if they can, when they can ?

Family first, then country and then the World  `amen

03JGMonte 01-17-2012 09:22 AM

Yeah our country really needs to focus on us right now instead of sending money to other countrys that would nvr do the same for us

Enzo354 01-17-2012 10:47 AM

Crazy how bad it is now...

Wife and kids? Monte was the first and only haha.

There is a good amount of poor citizens around here but I don't see a ton of homeless people out on the streets. Most of them have all been offered jobs and they refuse them so it's hard to tell what is happening. Nebraska isn't terrible with unemployment right now so I think people are getting by, or at least most.

Here in Florida there are a lot of pan handlers and homeless. It is difficult to tell who is homeless because they are poor and those who are homeless do to addiction and chemical dependence.

Space I am going to run for president to hopefully reverse this trend. We need to return the wealth back to America .
