Olympia, WA new member

Hello,
My name is Michael, 54, and I have lived in Olympia WA area for the last 6 years.
I sold my Heritage Softail last summer 2016 and bought my wife a 2004 Monte Carlo SS DE Intimidator w/ 113,000 miles.
Really a beautiful 3800 SC V6 car with little signs of wear. After about a year, I traded her my 07 Xterra for the Monte and finally got to drive it daily.
I am married with 2 kids (12 and 10), and a 12-week old husky mix pup. A car enthusiast since high school, this is my 1st 2 door since my daughter was born.
Looking for ways to increase performance for a more responsive drive.

Welcome neighbor,

That car sounds very similar to one I looked into on Craigslist about a year or so ago. The only issue was a gauge problem as I recall, sounded like a bad stepper motor. Talked to the guy on the phone once, but the guy never called back when I tried to arrange to see it.

Hello Plumbob,
I saw it for sale on his property near Tomlin State Park back in May-June 2016. It did have the gauge issue that cost me $300 at Tacoma Speedometer to fix. Other than that (warped rear brake rotors) the car was almost perfect inside and out. I called the dealership that serviced it and was told that it had a recall on valve cover leaks that they would fix. I wish I would have taken the engine cover off because they took it and refused to return it. I have looked online but can't find any aftermarket covers. Any ideas?

Ya that's the same one, I remember the craigslist map showing Tomlin State Park nearby.
I was looking for a project car when I saw that one and end up with a '00SS from Portland for $800 that needed a lot of work, which is now done except for paint. What a difference indoor storage makes...lol. Except for color, it's identical in every way to the '00SS we bought new and has been our daily driver since (See "Black Knight" in "Garage" photos). As a hobby, I've fixed and flipped two other gen. 6's in the past few years. The current project car came with no engine cover or oil filler extension, I was able to find brand new OEM replacement cover on eBay for $80, and a used oil filler extension for $10. Just ran a quick check and found this cover if you're willing to pay the price: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Grand-Prix-...ZZQaia&vxp=mtr
I also saw an expired listing where a used one sold for $60 including shipping. The oil filler extension you'll also need is the same as one for the 3800 series II NA which can also be found used on eBay. I suggest you get a new o-ring for the extension which can be bought from a dealer or Rockauto.com.

Screw eBay, I saw at least one engine cover the last time I was at the u-pull. Don't know the price, but if you want one, PM me and I'll check and let you know.
