Hello everyone, I am very new to the Monte Carlo community and I am quite car illiterate. I currently own a 2005 Monte Carlo LS and was wondering if anyone has any tips on general maintenance and care for the car. I plan on keeping the car around for as long as I reasonably can, and I’d like it to last for a while.

How many miles? I believe all LS came with the 3400s? The intake gaskets are known to rot, those are always good to replace with the metal ones. Theyre pretty solid cars and IMO very easy to work on. The 4t65e is a pretty iffy trans and are known to be quite fragile BUT honestly, ive never has one all out fail. Its usually the solenoids.

My car's odometer has a little over 170,000 on it. I really only got the car out of necessity since my previous car, a 2000 Subaru Outback, gave out on me not too long ago. I do want to make the car last as long as possible though, and I have taken a liking to how the car looks and handles compared to most other cars I have driven. (which is a small list if I am being honest.)

Just look up routine maintenance and don't drive aggressive for no reason.

Change out the fluids, do the plugs and wires, check all of your filters. Make sure you look at the suspension and make sure all of the hard rubber parts haven't deteriorated. Should be a reliable car as long as the metal is solid.

Welcome to MCF! Show us your car when you can. We LOVE Monte pics.....

I don't know much about the 3400 engine because I've never had one. I do, however, know that the Monte Carlo is a very stylish and comfortable car to own. I'm on my second one, after my '03SS was totaled at 33,000 miles due to an old lady running a traffic light. My current '07SS has 90,000 miles on the clock and I love driving it every day. I'll keep it a few more years... Whatever problem you encounter, don't hesitate to come here and search/ask for advice. It has helped me out multiple times. There is a wealth of Monte Carlo knowledge on this site.
