Just joined - ‘07 SS Transmission Questions
 

I bought a 2007 Monte SS with 60k miles about a month ago. I’ve read about transmission slipping issues and I’m planning to change the trans filter and fluid and also have the trans flushed through the cooler, converter, etc. The trans shifts okay but is kind of lazy in my opinion. What is the overall consensus on flushing and installing a shift kit? Also is this transmission the HD type with the 50/50 torque equalization components? I’ve been into cars for as long as I can remember and have owned a 1986 Monte SS, a 1987 Buick GN, a 1968 Camaro, and currently own a 1964 Corvette convertible, a 1965 Corvette Coupe, and a 2008 Corvette Z06. I look forward to gaining some knowledge about the ‘07 SS.

Welcome! It's possible the trans could be starting to go, it is a problem with the 4T65-HD on the 06-07 Monte SS (also 06-09 Impala SS, 05-08 Grand Prix GXP and 08-09 Lacrosse Super). Pretty hit or miss to be honest and can depend on how hard the car has been driven during its life or if it has some engine modifications that increase the hp. The 4T65-HD is rated very close to what the stock hp output is. Just for your knowledge, it might be worth reading up on this thread pertaining specifically to the problems with the 4T65-HD... Well since you are no novice to the game I agree with your 1st course of action. Changing the trannys fluids, should you be without any maintenance records and at 60,000 miles it is possible the previous owner never changed the fluids as this is a typical neglect point. There is a chance the fluids viscosity is spent and a fluid / filter change could be all you will need. There are some opinions floating around that flushes should be forgone as this procedure could stir up and break loose lodged sediment and have it pushed through your transmissions internals. Even though I think the general consensus was this should be avoided on the high mile cars / transmissions, say the ones over 100K which were never regularly maintained. Yours might be still of low enough miles to initiate this procedure, keep at it and that problem will never develop. Are you still a lead foot? :eek:
