Default Just bought a 1971 Monte Carlo

Hello,

Just signed up, my father in law just picked up a 1971 Monte Carlo, it's in somewhat rough shape (been sitting for years) but fired right up with new fluids and drove home.

Signed up here to try and find out some information about the car, for example the paint code would be nice. The blue is not original, but appears to be some kind of metallic orange color. The paint code was not on the plate by the cowl.

If anyone can help me out with deciphering some of the numbers I would appreciate it. So far I am having a hard time finding a whole lot of information. Plan to raise the car up on ramps sometime this week to see if it has the original 350cu engine in there or not.

Long term goal is to restore it to a nice weekend driver.

Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum .., The numbers should be on the block pad (in front of the cylinder head)right side .

Welcome to the site - if there is no code or just a line where the color code should be on the cowl tag - it could have been a special order color. Our 72 Monte Carlo was custom painted from the factory Tuxedo Black (a color that was not readily available on a 72 Monte) - our fender tag had a line where the paint code went.

Thanks for the link zjerry, does anyone know how to decode the plate here:

I found a couple sites, but I can't seem to find any matching codes. Does the B after the 13857 mean it was made in Baltimore? I am assuming the 7C3 is the interior trim, and 53 B is the body paint code? But, I can't find what those are. I also am not sure what the 38 (or 3B) and 0265 mean? Unfortunately the plate had been sprayed with the same blue paint as the exterior, and to be able to read any of it I had to sand it lightly.

Edit: OK, so it was once pacer gold with a black top (53 B) and originally had the black fabric bench seat (703) interior. Just need to figure out B for Baltimore? and what the 38 / 3B and 0265 are for.

Thanks.
