Bought my first Monte Carlo, signed up.
I'm only 17, so I figured I had all the time in the world to try some stuff out. I, for the last year and a half, have been driving my 1998 Silverado 3500 with a 6.5L Turbo diesel... And I wanted a muscle car, as my dad has a 1968 Camaro SS with a 427.
So last weekend, I went to a guy who lived on a ranch south of us (I live in the Nebraska panhandle) who happened to have a 1974 Monte Carlo for sale. All original, $500. I paid him, drove one of our Duramaxes down there, and hauled it home. It needed a new transmission, as the original turbo 350 was burnt out. So my father and I spent the afternoon replacing the transmission, and now it's in driveable condition. It runs good, starts up every time, but I want power. And in particular, I wanna build torque. Lots of it. Anyway, some tips and ideas would be very helpful, because my understanding of engines, isn't what most people here probably have. Thanks. :D Here she is: http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/z...2/DSC04616.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/z...2/DSC04620.jpg |
looks like a very nice monte you have. It's gonna be tough to get power out of that but it looks sweet, congrats on having a very good looking Monte Carlo.......:)

But it's gonna be my daily driver to and from school and work. I'm gonna build it as I go, and for whenever it's apart, and not driveable, I have my dually. |
Welcome to the site and congrats on the buy.
I don't know anything about them, but there are plenty of members here who do. Good luck on everything and keep us updated. |
Nice Monte! Welcome!

Looks pretty nice for "all original"! Killer price! I'm not a big fan of the brown or vinyl top, but my dad almost bought one in an uglier baby blue once (it was not an orignal color). I think you can have a lot of fun with this car.
Welcome aboard! |
Hi J.Lee, & Welcome to the Monte Carlo Family. WoW, you have a lot going for you 4 sure...Look 4ward to reading/seeing your future updates. Also, we would love 2 see pic's of your father's Camaro 4-Sure You sure got a super deal on your 74 Monte Carlo, and it should make a super project ride 4 U. You can make it as fast and better as you want, but it all really depends on your Modification Budget/time/knowledge. If you want torque, I'd look for a "454" C.I., and it will give you decent power, but please check back to see what our expert member's post on your request. Is this your last year of H.S. ? What are you plans after high school ? We look forward to your future posts, and hearing about you & your adventures with your awesome Chevy Monte Carlo. EnJoy the MCF Peace/Out :) |
welcome to the forum. Great buy! I wouldn't worry about the size she's fine...back in high school a close friend had the very same year and color,,landau top/ swivel buckets/350. Be aware when you park tho the doors go on forever!!!!

Welcome to the forum!
Great find with that low price 1974 Monte! You should have plenty of fun, and room under that massive hood for engine mods. I took care of that "Awaiting Email Confirmation" problem. Your account should be good now. |
