Big block 83 Monte Carlo

Hello everyone. My name is Mike. I have a rust free 1983 Monte Carlo (not SS) with T-Tops and a v-6. I am going to be putting a Gen VI 454 cid big block in this car. I know I need to buy headers and coil springs. I am hoping you guys/gals with the wisdom on this can help me to find the right stuff I need to so this swap. I am going to be taking the intake off and putting a different intake on it to use a 4 barrel carb. Thanks in advance and If I put this in the wrong category, I am sorry; feel free to relocate it to the proper category mods.

Welcome to the forums Mike . Sounds like a big project but well worth it in the end. One improvement you might also include is strengthening the frame because of the bigger power difference and body flex. Good luck.

How do I do that? Is it an expensive process? Also, will the rear end be okay if I don't stomp on it? It is the rear end that came with the V-6

The process is referred to as boxing the frame. There is a few different kits that you weld pieces to the frame between the front/rear tires that strengthen the frame from twisting. Considering you mentioned a t top roof I would suggest it if you're doing anything the that big block. Another thing that your going to need is a electric fuel pump because if I remember right they didn't finish drilling the block for a mechanical fuel pump. As for the 7.5 rear end sure it will hold up if you don't beat the snot out of it , I have one in mine and I'm pushing over 400 hp and drive normal. Good luck

Thank you. I will spend the next year gathering the things I need to do the swap. Then after I have refreshed the engine with a basic rebuild and mild upgrade, I will install it. I appreciate any advice.
