Smile 2000 monte carlo ss / rearview mirror

I have a electrochromic rearview mirror that has gone bad. From searching the wed they cost way to much to replace ($179.00). So i would like to replace it with a flip type with the map lights that you just change by flipping it down at night.
I looked at it to see how to remove it and i don't have a clue. Looks like both end have a ball joint that lets it rotate, i don't see any screws to remove. Would be thankful for any help on how to remove mirror.
Thanks

I haven't removed one yet so I can't help with that, but is $179 a junkyard price?

I would check the junkyard first. Also Check craigslist for someone parting out a monte or similar gm vehicle. There should be a lot of model's it was in.

In my car I believe I see one torx screw holding the mirror to the windshield mount.

Almost every one I have seen was secured with a small Allen screw.

Welcome to the MCF.
