Default 01 MonteSS Introduction

Hello all,

I just wanted to introduce my self. My name is kevin. I don't own a Monte Carlo, but my long term girlfriend does. I am just around here to look for good ideas, mantinace advice, good mods with a good HP:$$ ratio, and just to hang out and have a good time.

I am currently restoring a 1965 mustang, I drive a miata. I ride road bikes, I run, I swim i don't like it. I am a systems administrator, and Student.

here is a picture of her car right after I washed it a few times, waxed it, washed it again and dried it.

I know the first mod she really wants to do, is take the lettering and what not off and get it painted black so it will stand out some more. The red on red kinda washes every thing out. I figure a heat gun and floss will get it off, then i can shoot some SS paint.

She would also like to get the intiadator spoiler put on(flip up style). If I have time to do that over the summer I might do that as well.

I have an amp laying around. Any one know some good inexpensive boxes for these cars? Or should i just make one? She has the onstar system. in the back left part of her trunk. But from what I can tell is that there is a stock amp under the rear package tray accessable from the trunk. Does any one have a pinout for that that I can tap those lines and use a high to low level converter?

Where is the best engine mod to start on these 3800's?

Welcome to MCF Kevin!!

The first best mod for your engine is a scanner. Find out if the engine is a good platform to begin with. Don't play it off that - Hey it came from the factory and sounds good therefore its fine attitude. It will just get you in trouble.

Check out this topic at MCF for engine build up. It looks supercharged, so most of this article will pertain to you. 5th post down.

This is an 01, I am not sure but I thought all 01's were N/A? I do know that at least hers is N/A. She and I both wish it were supercharged.

Hey Kevin,

Welcome to the club. Your GF has a nice looking Monte. First mods would be an intake and u-bend delete. Thats going to be the cheapest. Next would be to get the GMPP handling kit. Some also use poly bushings with this kit to firm the suspention even more.

Welcome the MCF.

That sure is a nice Monte your girlfriend owns. Not sure why Chevy did the "Everything Red" on those years cars? There were some Montes that got black "SS" lettering which to me would stand out better.

Good greif, I read it as 04 for some reason and thought the Monte Carlo badging behind the door said Supercharged.

For mods: CAI, Catback exhaust and larger throttle body.
