Picks/Richmond/SatNight
Before we begin this week, I want to make a request. I'm not necessarily mad, but I am going to make this big and in all caps to make sure we all see it because for me, it is important....
EDITING REQUEST FROM TIMING AND SCORING When making your picks, please make your picks in this format. 1) Pick 2) Pick 3) Pick It is tough wehn I am scrolling through posts with commentary and the such when someone makes a post that has tehir picks in teh middle of a sentence like 1) pick 2) pick 3) pick and then they finish up with more comments or something. That just makes this job tough when I'm scrolling through the forum looking for everyones picks and trying to make sure I have them all right. With that out of the way, lets get going.... Points and Congratulatory Remarks First off, congratulations to Jerry Smith, or as he is known here, 77GP, for a big win in Atlanta! That is two in a row on two historic tracks! If he can do it at Richmodn, he'll be the first member in our history to win three races in a row! We also congratulate Carl Martin who still holds that overall poitns lead, although for the last 3 weeks consecutively, that margin has shrunk..... Jeremy Mayfield infamously raced his way into the chase here one year by winning the race. But, Kyle Busch became the most hated man in NASCAR when he wrecekd Dale Junior trying to win this race... and then Clint Bowyer won it anyway. http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images...g%3F1314224211 Also, the race was once sponsored by Chevorlet Monte Carlo!! And it was presented by Looney Tunes!! Ironically, while the race was sponsored by Chevrolet, a Monte Carlo didn't win, at least not with the Looney Tunes paint jobs. They came back the next year after not winning and did the "Looney Tunes rematch" http://i.ebayimg.com/t/JEFF-GORDON-2...5Nw~~60_57.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/t/MIKE-SKINNER-...0Fg~~60_57.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/t/TERRY-LABONTE...DqQ~~60_57.JPG And in 1999, Tony Stewart got his first win here.... I looked and looekd for a picture of that night, but coudln't find it... http://www.jetcoat.com/images/20car.jpg Dale Earnhardt also cleaned his windshield like a boss here... http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...indshield1.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...indshield2.jpg No boring Torino hisotry for you here...... This Week at Richmond So many things this week.... the wild card thing, drivers wanting last minute bonus points, some drivers just need a win (like me) to get some momentum going..... And this race used to provide some of the most exciting racing on the circuit! But then we ran like 3 races here with about 9 cautions between them. The last two races have seen teh return of that excitement. The good old Richmond with speedway speeds and short track banging might produce a great show, or it might produce long green runs... we'll find out Saturday though. The Favorites I think with their recent showings at Bristol and esepcailly Atlanta, the JGR cars of Dennis Hamlin and Kyle Busch have to to be the favorites to win this race and show they are serious about going for a championship. Also, with Kevin Harvick getting his act halfway back together, I think he is someone to watch out for at Richmond with Gil Martin back on the box. Jeff Gordon wants to get that wild card, and Richmond is good to him. So we'll see how it all works out for him. I think Clint Bowyer is great on a flat track, and if he can avoid issues, which he hasn't for the last two weeks, he'll be a factor at Richmond. Dale Earnhardt Jr has been in contention here twice and ol Pyle Busch stole it from him both times... we'll see how he does, but he has to be a favorite this week! The Ones to Watch Several people were left out of the favorites... I really wanted ot put Carl Edwards in teh favorites. He has been in contention for the last three weeks, but things keep happening to keep him out of contention. At the same time, the last two Richmodn races had him in contention to win yet late race incidents stole it from him! It would be cool for him to finally get a win, kind of like Gordon at Pocono. My other one to watch that I put at the top of this list is Joey Logano. He is a great flat track driver and I think he will contend for a top 10. Stewart got his first win here and was in contention at the spring, but he really hasn't been that great here in recent year sexcept for a few rare occasions. This seems like a good Brad K track to look at it, yet his stats are kind of up and down here. We'll just have to see how he does. I don't think his head is in the game sometimes because he is always whining about the Hendrick cars and throwing water bottles out to get cautions and such things as that. Jimmie Johnson seems to either win this race or get knocked out and go a couple of laps down. Or crash. I just don't see him being a major contender this week, but if he is, he'll probably win. Kasey Kahne has hit another string of bad luck so I just can't factor him in. Martin Truex and the MWR group might be a good group of people to watch. I picked them to be good in teh srping race, and they let me down though. The ones to avoid Matt Kenseth is the biggest dud of the week. He hasn't scored a top 10 at Richmond in quite some time now, and he is just plagued with bad luck the last few weeks. He has been hanging out with Carl Edwards too much. Greg Biffle is kind of a hit and miss at Richmond, and his last two weeks at Bristol and Atlatna have been misses. I just can't justify him this week. Other than that, your normal duds of Ryan Newman, Montyoa, McMurray, and David Gilliland apply. My Picks Hmmm..... I know I want my first two. My last one is up in the air, I just have to feel like his luck will turn around at some point, if not too late for anything this year... 1) Denny Hamlin 2) Kyle Busch 3) Carl Edwards. Let's go racing, boys! |
Jeff Gordon
Jimmie Johnson Brad Keselowski |
Dale EarnHardt Jr.
Jeff Gordon Kevin Harvick Temporarily... Duane no team run down this week? Or whos good whos not at Richmond? |
You caught me while editing. One time, I put about an hour into this thing and then hit the wrong button and closed it out, so to make surE I keep at least some of it, while I'm typing this thing, I'll post and it and then immediately start adding the rest of the stuff. That way, if I hit the wrong button, I don't lose everything, just a little bit.

As usual Duane..I read it all word for word....
I always enjoy your insight as well as your knowledge of whos who and whats what... How ironic: It must have been fate.... But the 3 top Chevy guys you spoke highly about to have a good chance at richmond... I had already chosen...Before hand... By the way how apprapoe is it that...silly season is here! All we need now is the "Looney Toons" Sponsorship to raise its head at this one...:rotfl: Great Picks from back then as well as always.;) Thanks Duane...Well done!!!:congrats: Oh and Congrats Jerry on your wins!!!:congrats: |
Well ti's all about a rhytym. Once you figure things out, it's just a matter of keeping up with the trends. It took me a while to get my rundown formula down, but once I did, I can usually put these things together in 30 mins-1 hr tops.

1) Dale Jr
2) Denny Hamlin 3) Kevin Harvick I really do hate picking Hamlin since he's the one that forced the caution that enabled Pyle to wreck Dale Jr in 2008. But I'd rather pick him than the Shrub. |
1)Kyle Busch
2)Kevin Harvick 3)Denny Hamlin |
1) Dale Jr
2) Martin Truex Jr 3) Jimmie Johnson |
