Points and Congratulatory Remarks
Congrats to 02 Earnhardt for a big win in Texas! I know what it's liek to wonder if you're going to win a race all year. 02 Earnhardt won't have to worry about going winless!! Congrats to Butch for extending that Segment points lead just a little bit... The overall lead has grown to 116 points. Kasey Kahne, Carl Edwards, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon, and others have been known to end long win droughts in the desert! So who has a win drought to break this week? I'm looking at Dennis Hamster and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.!! CHEVROLET TEAMS Hendrick Jimmie has been a "hit and miss" since they repaved Phoenix. He was second here in the spring and is the "hot hand" right now. However, he did blow a tire trying to keep up with Brad last year.... Jeff Gordon and Kasey Kahne aren't very consistent and have both wrecked a lot of cars this year. Each is a gamble. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is someone I'm looking at this weekend. Droughts end in the desert in NASCAR, and Jr has a win drought right now. He was 5th her in the spring and has some great finishes going right now... Richard Childress Harvick won this thing last year and is athreat anywhere he goes. Stewart Haas This team is just riding laps right now... Newman is quietly logging top 10's and likes this kind of track though. Danica is from here!! Furniture Row Kurt Busch is just too up and down to depend on... TOYOTA TEAMS Joe Gibbs I'm really looking at Denny Hamlin. He has 2 straight top 10s, his back is feeling better and he can feel the car, PLUS, his last finisehs at Phoenix were 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. He has a drought, and I'm looking at his drought to end in this desert. Kyle Busch has never won in the chase, but Phoenix might be his chance. He blew a tire here ni the spring. Prior to that, he had finishes of 3rd and 6th on the new surface. Matt Kenseth had a top 10 here in the spring but didn't run well on this new surface in Roush. Michael Waltrip Racing Truex has been okay and so has Bowyer... hard to say what they will do. FORD TEAMS Roush Carl Edwards won Phoenix and Richmond and is certainly on my radar. Biffle and Stenhouse are alright here though... not as good of a choice as some others you have though. Penske Brad K has a 4th, 6th, and 5th since the repave here. He's been great lately and is running for wins. Joey Logano has been hit and miss on this track.. has some top 10's, ahs some finishes in the teens and 20's. My Picks.... 1) Dale Earnhardt, Jr. 2) Carl Edwards 3) Jimmie Johnson |

The IRS is after Juan Pablo Montoya, according to an article on Jayski...
IRS says Montoya owes $2.7 million: The Internal Revenue Service is demanding $2.7 million in extra taxes and penalties from race car driver Juan Pablo Montoya, who, it asserts, had $9.5 million in taxable income in 2007 and 2008, nearly four times the $2.4 million he and his wife reported on their joint tax returns for the two years. In a previously unreported lawsuit filed in U.S. Tax Court, Montoya concedes that in those two years he had nearly $800,000 more in gross receipts, interest and partnership income than originally reported, but challenges the IRS other, even bigger dollar adjustments. Montoya, a 38-year-old Colombian citizen who now lives in state and local income tax free Miami with his wife, Connie Freydell, and three children, is hardly the first driver to run into trouble with the IRS. Coincidentally, he recently signed to drive in 2014 on the IndyCar team of Roger Penske, the billionaire CEO of Penske Automotive Group. That team already includes Brazilian Helio Castroneves, who placed second this year on the IndyCar circuit and is known beyond the track for winning Dancing With The Stars and for his 2009 jury acquittal on federal felony tax evasion charges.(full article at Forbes)(11-4-2013) |

Post from Jayski.com, I anticipate a lot of breakdowns from the Penske camp next year...
AutoZone joins the #22 in 2014: Penske Racing announced that AutoZone will join the organization as an associate sponsor for the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. AutoZone and Penske Racing will embark on an extensive business-to-business relationship as the companys logo will be prominently featured on the C-post of the #22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion driven by 2013 Chase driver Joey Logano beginning next season. AutoZone will also work with other Penske Racing partners to increase its presence in the racing community. In addition, the Memphis, Tenn.-based company will launch a marketing campaign focused around Penske Racing and Logano. AutoZone is the nation's leading retailer and a leading distributor of automotive replacement parts and accessories with more than 5,000 stores in the US, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. AutoZone has an extensive history in motorsports, including various sponsorships in NASCAR, powerboat racing and regional racing series around the country. This marks the automotive companys first sponsor relationship in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.(Penske Racing)(11-5-2013) |
