#3 back for 2014

On some level,
Probably during the broadcasting of the races Dillion will be in running the number #3 ... There may be plenty of references to Dale sr while he is running...But he will never live up to Dale sr's Legacy by comparison. The ERA of Dale Sr has long since past... There will obviously never be another Driver/Era That will live up to Dale Sr's status... But I do believe Dillion is going to have a rude awakening going into the Cup level.

I been arguing about this this all over Yahoo.
Richard has never been disassociated with the car because he has always been the owner. Even now, the group that bought out Petty Enterprises wanted the old man so that it would still be a Richard Petty car. I think Richard owns about 1% of RPM. I don't know how they could re-create this effect for the #3 with Sr being dead.
I feel bad for Dillon. I can tell you from reading the posts on Yahoo: There are a lot of people who hate Austin Dillon. I think that is unmerited. I think its all because of the number and he now has some big shoes to fill. Why should he have to fill those shoes? He seems like a good kid & decent driver. He will be booed a lot and subject to all sorts of pressure that a rookie just don't need! All over a number that had no real reason to be dragged into NASCAR again. I guess they thought it would help merchandise sales? I think it will hurt a lot and they will regret this decision

Well, I don't really mean to sway the Dale Sr. fans. Remember, I'm not one. But if you are a Sr. fan and you like seeing Austin Dillon drive the #3 than your opinion is more valid than mine! But I know a lot of Sr fans are really PO'ed and I feel its important to respect their passion. It is the life blood of the industry!
