Turn signals strange behavior

Hello to everyone,

After I put together my 04' Monte, (it was on jack stands for suspension change and some body work) the turn signals started to act weird.

When the car is of, hazard flashes as it should, all bulbs are OK.
When I turn car on, turn signals work as they should.

The problem starts when I switch on the lights.
With lights on, turn signals start to flash faster, all the lights flash (left and right), the chosen side flashes with normal light intensity, the other side is with lower intensity.

Driver side headlight have been changed since the car was in driving condition. The "new" light is used original, the old one was some noname.

Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

Where can I find wiring diagrams for 04 MC SS Supercharged?

Thanks for the help,
Ivo

I would start by looking for poor electrical connections at connectors and/or grounds. Try wiggling the connectors, especially the headlight connectors while the problem is happening. Also try firmly tapping on the dash near the hazard switch and on the column near the multi-function switch and look for changes to rule them out. Double check the headlight bulbs. Be suspicious of connectors of grounds that may have been disturbed during the body work.

Here's the schematic:

Thanks Plumbob,
I will check these. Can you post headlights wiring diagram as well?

I suspect there is something wrong with wiring.
The car is Canada variant, imported to UK. In UK they add additional turn signals in front fenders and rear bumper, may be to comply with their rules.

Thanks for your help,
Ivo

Will post headlight schematic later today.

Thanks a lot Plumbob,

What I discovered today is that there is some mess in passenger side wire harness. One of the circuit in the yellow dabble bulb is connected both to turn signal and side marker. So, it is lit when headlights are on and then when turn signal is on it powers the same circuit.

Obviously the guys in the UK had real fun :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Best regards,
Ivo

Your welcome Ivo.

Just curious. It sounds like your Monte is well traveled. How did it end up in the U.K. and back to N.A.?

Hi Plumbob,
It is not in America :-) I am in Bulgaria, so it traveled even longer :-)
As far as I know the story, in 2007 it was imported in UK from Canada. Then made it legal for UK streets, additional turn signals added, some fog lights modification and LPG conversion.
In 2012, IIRC, I saw it first in ebay.co.uk. and while I was making my mind to buy it, it disappear.
Then, in 2014 it was again for sale... I have some talk with the guy... he asked 3,5K pounds... I offered him 2,5... He refused and put it back in ebay.
I bid there and got it for about 2,6K pounds.
So, since July 2014 it is my daily driver :)
