Traction control light on
I have a serviceTraction Control light on.I understand that it is probably a sensor on one of the wheels. How difficult is it to fix,and can do any damage by driving the car?it is a 2001 SS

RE: Traction control light on
I was wondering if there was one of those fancy ways of deactivating the traction control permanently. You know, press the brakes 3 times, switch the lights on and off twice, press the brakes again twice, open the sunroof 4 times, click the left turn twice, then the right once, open & close the trunk 7 times, do a couple of 360's, spit out the right window while making a left turn and voila, no more damn traction control.

Is there a service trac control light? Or is it that light that says "trac off"?

RE: Traction control light on
I had the same problem everytime I slammed the e-brake to the floor to bust a 360 the service traction light would come on and I have no idea why.??? LOL But all I did is turn the engine off then back on and it went off. Not much help but thought I might share my expierence with the service trac. sys. light.

RE: Traction control light on
I checked the brake fluid and it was ok. I took it to the dealership earlier and they said it was a rear wheel bearing that is out. I'm not quite sure why a rear wheel bearing would have anything to do with the light coming on when I used traction control. The guy that I bought it from is going half and half on it. The dealership is charging $539 w/labor for putting on a bearing! The bearing is $378 they said. I can get it through gmpartsdirect.com for $200. Since the guy is paying for it, it doesn't bother me too much.

RE: Traction control light on
The bearings on that aren't that hard to change. take off the rear brake, and there are 3 13-15 MM bolts, I dont remember. the bolts come in through the BACK of the backing plate. just be sure to unplug the sensor on the frame before you start, otherwise you'll rip the wire out. so in essence its 5 bolts, the disc brake cradle(2-17mm bolts) and the 3 holding the bearing in. youll need to pull the rotor off too. the top one is a real PITA and is tighter than H*** usually 85 '#s the reason your traction control light is on is because the bearing and wires are for your ABS, and your ABS is part of your TCS when the ABS goes out, volia, traction light comes on.
