Temperature Gauge

Was wondering why my temperature gauge is running way high, high to the point where it's touching my gas gauge? My car is nowhere near running hot, no leaks or loosing any coolant. When I first start it, it is in mid temp range.

Might very well be a stepper motor problem if it is starting off in the mid temp range.

Thanks and where is the stepper motor? Should I be concerned? I was thinking bad thermostat.

the stepper motor is the electric motor that controls the gauge. it what works the needle. you would have to pull the cluster out to service it.
Could also be a faulty temp sensor, seen those throw the gauge off also.
you could unplug the sensor and see it the gauge moves either to cold or pegs out in the hot. Or tap on the cluster to see if the stepper motor wakes up.

For the most part, the stepper motor is easy to change. I've changed them on a Buick LeSabre and a GMC 1500. Just need to be handy with a soldiering iron. The stepper motors can be bought dirt cheap off eBay.

Here is a link about changing them:

Here's what I did when my '04 Monte's Instrument Cluster started acting-up like yours.

Pull the Cluster.
Send it to this place.
They do the whole deal! Complete overhaul. Guage Step Motors and Lights!

You must send your cluster in for repair, they do not sell clusters
