Default Tranny question

I have a 2003 Monte ss with 97,000 miles. Bought it a few months ago. Started noticing that when accelerating from a start, I get a clunking sound then car accelerates. After sound, it gets into gear and is fine. If I start very slowly and tranny gets in gear, then no clunk. So does this sound like a transmission issue?

so while its clunking the car is not moving and "searching" for a gear? if thats the case that is not good at all for that trans. if its clunking while still accelerating that would probably be an axle, strut, wheel bearing, ball joint, etc.

Definitely clunking when finding 1st gear. Did some research that suggests it could be a bad selinoid but I'm not getting an error code. If start very slow from a start, then it does not clunk into gear. Not an issue as have to learn to not race off when the light turns green 🙂

some times it will not trip the cel but will store the code anyway. just keep in mind it will only get worse as time goes on im sure.
