Default Sloppy gear shift selector (column)

Hello all, I have a 1985 Monte Carlo with a TH350 3 speed trans P R N D 2 1 the gear selector is on the steering column. Currently there is a lot of play in the selector lever. Is there anyway to tighten that up or when I take it apart should I be looking for something that might be worn or broken? I haven't pulled it apart yet, would like some advice before I get started. Thank you.

There are plastic/nylon bushing on the shifter linkage that do wear out over time. Should be located under the car where the two shifter linkage rods connect together. Also should be on the steering colum under the hood where the linkage connects. There is also a bolt that you can loosen and make some minor adjustments. near the transmission right next to one of the bushings. Good luck
