Service Manual ??
 

I'm hoping someone on the site can help me... I recently bought a Haynes repair manual for my '06 MC LTZ, and find it greatly lacking. The electrical diagrams are very limiited, and don't include everything. I've found an "official service manual" for $250, but think there has to something more reasonably priced. Any leads on a good service manual?

Keep in mind, the Haynes/Chilton books are typically about 1 inch thick, covering a lot of common things for these cars between the different drivetrains and multiple years. When you buy the true GM Service Manual (I believe sold from a company called HELMS), these cars are at very thick volume books (and usually thinner paged than Haynes/Chiltons use). I have the GM Service Manual for my 1984 Camaro and it's one really thick book. My father had the service manuals for his 1998 Grand Prix, and that was three very thick books. And these manuals were not cheap (I don't recall the price, but definitely a lot more than a Haynes or Chilton).

If you have a good library system, they might be able to provide you access to them. Or sometimes on eBay I have seen people selling discs dirt cheap claiming to be a computerized version of the GM shop manual in PDF format. Or the last option, pay a visit to your local car dealer. I believe they are encouraged to help share some of this information (I know a guy who stopped at a dealer near me and they gave him the diagrams he needed to trace down a problem he was having).

If you are a do-it-yourselfer and plan to keep the car until the wheels fall off, the books are very helpful to have and will pay for themselves in time.

Helm. By far the superior service manual. It's what the dealerships use.

I had a full set for my 03 Monte which I sold after that car was totaled. I tried to order a set for my 06 Monte about 6-8 years ago - they were on back order and never came in so my order was cancelled. I haven't checked since but I do highly recommend Helm.
