security light
 

The security light keeps coming on and the car won't start, have re-set thru radio several times to make the car work, but later the light will come on again. Sometimes not for a day or so, but it still happens. 2001 Monte Carlo LS 3.4 -- need help!

i've had something simular on an impala once.... we brought it to the gm shop, but the car didnt act up for them. So they replaced the car's computer ($500 cdn) and we never had the problem again.

for us... we'd be driving, then the passlock light came on. (security light), and then it cut out all power to the light's, but the car still ran.

sounds like your BCM is going bad.

I would check the following:

1) Try using the spare key and see if that works. As the key gets worn, the ignition cylinder has trouble sending the correct code to the BCM
2) If that doesn't work, it sounds like the ignition switch/lock cylinder is going.
3) There is an off chance that the BCM is going, but you typically see other weird behavior as the BCM goes
