Seat Heater Not Staying On

Having a problem with the driver-side seat heater. Everything was operating normal last year but ever since I got the car out of storage earlier this year it has been an ongoing problem. When I activate the seat heater, it does turn on but only stays on for up to thirty seconds and then shuts off on its own. It doesn't stay on very long, not even long enough to warm the seat up. The passenger seat heater works fine.

My question is, can anyone enlighte me on this? Does this sound like something in particular and does anyone have any thoughts as to what the problem might be?

Haha yep sounds about right, what a coincidence.

Honestly it doesn't bother me all that much because I don't drive the car during winters, however it is nice to have it during those chilly spring/fall mornings and evenings. I'm just hoping for any enlightment from someone who has experienced this already and has fixed or has had it fixed, so I can narrow it down to something specific.

Bump... still looking for any insight into this.

It sounds like something in the circuit is expanding and creating an open. Is the circuit protected by a fuse or breaker? If breaker, check the contacts for oxidation. It's possible they have oxidized to the point of creating enough resistance in the circuit to trip the breaker. Clean the contacts and see if the problem goes away. Another place I would suspect is the switch contacts.

Thanks Mike, that gives me a starting point.

I think at this point of the year I'll most likely just put this off until next year, that is unless I have some time and feel like doing it before the car goes into winter storage.

Matt:

Maybe this will help?

I have also read theres a connector under the seat....with a orange wire.....

Its possible, that if you disconnect it and then re connect it .... The heated seat may work again!

There was also a suggestion I found on you tube.... To just by pass the connector.... and connect the wires directly together(orange wire)

I think before I did try that direct connection of the orange wires.... Try using a jumper from one to the other first...Just to be sure that it fixes the problem. Since it is a fused system.. you certainly wont have to worry about causeing a short and or a fire?

I figure it has to be something as simple as a corroted wire as mentioned before by Mike (03SSLE)
I hope you find the problem.

Thanks Dave.

Sounds like his symptoms were different than mine, as mine still works but doesn't stay on; I have to figure out why mine won't stay on. This is where I'd love to have the set of Helm service manuals. I tried ordering their set for the car probably over a year ago but they were back ordered and they finally ended up cancelling my order and refunded the cost. Maybe I should try ordering again. I refuse to buy other brands of manuals; Helm is hands down the best service manual available.

Same thing just happened to me. 2006 ss
My heat driver seat just started doing the same thing.
Turns on for about 30 seconds then shuts off.
Passenger seat works fine.

Has anyone been able to figure out and or fix the issue?
I hate working on electronics so much so i don't want to touch anything unless im pretty sure what I'm doing
