Replacing lamps in the climate controls

I need to replace a dash lamp in my climate control on my 2000 Monte SS. How do I get to the rear of the climate control? I see no visible screws to remove. Thanks for help.

Edit from Taz: changed name of thread.

RE: Dash Lamps

take your dash apart, then unscrew the HVAC controlls off the dash.
unplug all the crap in the back of them.
there are 4 small screws on the back side of them you need to take those out
Then you can take out the circuit board it has some more screw that hold it in place.
then you can get to the one light you need to replace. they are the grain of wheat bulbs i belive that are in it.

G.M. says it is unserviceable but this is becuse they dont want to take the time to do it and also because ALOT of pepole are not willing to try it or dont know how to solder on a circuit board.
Get good soldier
get a desolder tool (cheap one from radio shack)
get a good soldering iron if you dont have one and go for it.
the only lights in there that are 12. are the grain of wheat bulbs not the button lights for the AC, def. etc... those are L.E.D's and you can just replace those with out a resistor as they are done already in the board.

morads and ebay always has some for sale. i think there anywhere from 30 to 40 bucks for the whole unit.

do you want different colors, if so check outhttp://www.bbengineer.com/cars/impal...e.htm#Ordering

i want to eventually change out all my lights to led's. its really not that expensive. the only bad thing is that you have to render your car undriveable untill everything ships back.{not in your case cause you dont really need hvac.}

LEDs are no more difficult than replacing regular bulbs. I bought 60 LEDs for $10 on Ebay (forget the vendor, but I keep meaning to post it). BBEenginering doesn't have the DIY instructions for the HVac controls, but the biggest thing is the circuit board for the HVac is printed on cardboard instead of the usual material. therefore you have to be careful you don't overheat the contacts when removing the bulbs or re-soldering in the new ones.

If doing LEDs, a resistor is a must.

id love to go through bbengineer but i really cant afford his prices, id rather do it myself. i have soldering background so it shouldnt be a problem, what type of resistors do u need?

BBE would be willing to help you do the job yourself, he's really a great guy. Just shoot him an email or something
