Replacing the fog light bulb

Ok, so I know this has probably been asked many times, but I just can't seem to find the thread that fits my exact question.

I have the 06 Monte Carlo LT, and the Low Beam and Fog Lights are H11 bulbs, and my High Beams are H9 bulbs.

I was wondering if you could put the H9 bulbs in the fog lights without them causing any damage to either the housing or the wiring? Don't know if it would draw more power and cause the wiring to melt down or cause the fog light housing to melt in any way, shape, or form. I was thinking I wanted brighter lighting down there and hoping that I could do it this way.

Currently, I have a pair of H11's ordered and on their way to replace the current stock. I had 8500k Xenon bulbs in there, but one blew out, and I'm anal so I replaced both with the stock bulbs for the time being. Hate having one light out and one working, or one blue and one white.

i just went and looked @ the shelf, the h11 and h9 bulbs are similar, but not the same, the prongs in the socket are different distances apart, you wont be able to switch them

they do physically look almost the same, but one is a little bigger than the other

Got ya.. Thank you for that information.. I thought the prongs were the same size and that the only real difference was the tip being coated on the H11's and not on the H9's.. Well then I guess I won't be putting the 9's in there.

Again thank you for that info.

oh ok, the coating doesn't make a difference, that wont do anything at all, if you can get it to plug in i say go for it, but i just looked quickly and they didn't look the same, but maybe its just my eyes playing tricks on me

even if the plugs fit there is a chance the bulb wont fit the socket in the housing i know the 9005 & 9006 bulbs are almost the same but they wont fit in the same socket in the housing

Holy Cow! Wiz Kidds back! (Sorry off subject).

lol..yah

as for the plug in into the headlight itself they looked the same, but the prongs still looked different to me, so it wouldn't plug into the wiring socket, BUT maybe i was just not looking closely enough, i did look @ them both side by side though

yeah they will look close but there most likly diff one will have a slightly bigger base than the other, found this out on the Sierra i put projectors in & ran normal bulbs for a while before i got an HID kit & i kept popin my low beams b/c of my adapter plug so i tried to put the other in its place & it was slightly larger than the socket
