Removing cover protecting steering column intermediate shaft & coupler

How did you remove the black plastic cover over the intermediate shaft and coupler from inside the vehicle, drivers side on a 96 Monte Carlo Z34? My goal is to disconnect the intermediate shaft from the stub shaft of the rack and pinion (steering gear). My repair manual and internet searches are not helping. I looked for clamps that might hold the plastic shroud in place but it does appear to have one so far. It seems like one cylindrical piece to me. Thanks for your answers.

Solved. I found a hint that the pinch bolt location is outside of the car.

Use a long crowbar braced against the inner tie rod or stabilizer shaft to more easily lift the cover at its base. The cover is wrapped around a tube at its base.
