Default Engine size ??????

Im going to buy my first monte carlo soon. I would like to know does the ss come with a 350 or a 305.Also wat is better at doing preformence mods to. People have told me that a 305 with a 4" bore is a 350 block butjust s shorter stroke because of a different crank. I would like to make the car around 500hp and ^ . Thank you.

the 4th gen monte carlo only came with the V8 in the 305 ci displacement from factory any monte that has a 350 in it was dealer instaled (none reported as far as i know) or owner instaled
the 305 and 350 have the same stroke or 3.48 it's the bore that is different the 305 is 3.735 and the 350 is 4.000
the 305 is good to make 300-350 hp anything over that get a biger block like 350 or 400 blocks

hi littmatt. what type of application will you be using your monte for? a street/weekend type cruiser or a full out drag racer/circle track car? 500hp is definitely achievable, but that will come at a price for sure. making a small block that puts out 500hp will more than likely involve forced induction of some sort along with high compression heads, a bottom end that will cost an arm and a leg, andprobably runninghigh octane race fuel or alcohol. not too mention a very pricey drivetrain tohandle all that power.imo, not too practical for a weekend driver/budget build, which is what most of us 'average joes' on the MCF go for,but if that's what you're going for, that's great. it will definitely be a very unique monte. good luck and we look forward to seeing your future monte.
