Default Radio No Sound Issue 2000 Monte SS

I've researched and read here and numerous other sites about the issue with the radio turning on and no sound and the popular fix is the corroded wiring in the harness behind the passenger front seat. Well, the girlfriend's '00 SS is experiencing that problem, radio works, no sound. Did the obvious things first, check the fuses for the radio and the steering wheel controls before taking up the carpet and checking the harness. Before I did that, I back probed the power and ground wires to the amp in the trunk, the orange has 12 volts with battery and switched ignition and the ground has continuity to the car body. For S&G purposes, I pulled up the carpet and uncovered the harness to check it. Unlike in the radio repair thread and several videos I watched, with this car there are no two orange wires into one orange wire but the ground wires have been repaired. There has been some moisture intrusion and the back floor carpet was slightly damp, however there are no corroded connections in that area since I have power and ground to the amplifier connections in the trunk. Once again I probed the orange wires for power and and checked the ground wires for continuity to the body before and after that repair. I know these are good since power is getting to the amp and the ground is good. My thought is that either the radio is not triggering the amp to turn, the amp is bad or the trigger wire to the amp is broken. The sound works when it wants to and doesn't seem to have a pattern as to weather or temperature conditions. Maybe this one will stump the folks.
