Normal operating temp?

Hey people its me again with another basic question. my 03 monte carlo ss (3.8L) runs at about the middle or a tiny bit more of the temp gauge on the dash before the fans kick on and bring it down a little. thats about 180 degrees for my gauge. i was wondering is this normal temp for my car or is this too hot? i just fixed a coolant leak today so maybe im being paranoid about it but i figured id ask.

That's where my 2000 SS runs at.

Halfway on the gauge is 195. That's where the stock thermostat opens. At 212 the fans should kick on. If the fans are kicking on frequently I would get the system flushed, as the thermostat opening should keep it cool

I've had aftermarket coolant temp sensors make the gauge read differently fwiw

Try a new thermostat
