Misfire or..?
So I bought my 2002 Monte Carlo SS last year in March from a dealership. Lost 1st gear in mid August (was told it was just a misfire and nothing major, by O'Rielly's and AutpZone). I had someone else that knew engines check it and said it was the trans not the cylinder, spark plugs or wires. Late August 2nd and 3rd gear had lost power and wouldn't get to speed till about 10 min of running. Early October the transmission went out. Turns out the torque converter needed to be replaced. But the issue is still there after I had the transmission fixed a couple weeks ago. Went back to O'Rielly's just to check again and the misfire came up again. My car doesn't want to jump on 1st gear, just kinda shudders until it hits 2nd (noticibly when its cold), the engine light flashes/shows for a few minutes and disappears, and my transmission is fine I assume, and all the other gears works just fine. It shifts right and RPMs are fine.
Also probably worth a mention, I was driving up to Madison Friday, from Rockford, IL., and the change engine oil light came on, I waited till I drove back Tuesday to change it but it's still prompting me to change the oil?
Sorry if it's a long post, I'm new

The change oil thing has to be reset to make it go away I think. My truck does that.
The shuddering while cold shifting could be a solenoid failing inside the transmission.
A flashing CEL is a misfire, and could be countless things - ignition module, crank sensor, MAF sensor, vacuum leak... the list goes on and on.

It ran fine this morning before and after I went to work, 1st gear and all no shuddering. I'm sure it won't just totally disappear though. I'm having my sisters boyfriend (works at O'Rielly's) come change the sparkplugs and wires. Somebody said it might just need a tune-up?
Thanks for replying by the way!
Forums always intimidate me lol
No worries, we're here to help. It could very well just need a tune up. I know a failing Throttle Position Sensor will make the tranny shift hard too - but don't be surprised if the tranny needs work/solenoids replaced.
I maybe way off base here ..But maybe worth some consideration...
You mentioned it wouldn't shift run until after it warmed up...
It may also be a sign of a clogged catalytic converter...
But Night hawk definitely gave you some great advise/and good things to consider and checkout.
Keep us posted on what fixed the issue.

So we stopped after cylinder 6 wire and plug cause it was a real hassle trying to get that out without removing the engine. We only got 4/6 wires and sparkplugs changed because the other two were just an overwhelming thought after 6, took us a couple hours to get that one and its late. All the wires and plugs are the original ones (2001 factory). All the plugs so far though only had regular use wear. We'll see in the morning! Thanks everyone who has replied so far!
Hopefully not. And my buddy says if it keeps going off (the oil light) just disconnect the battery for about a half an hour. Resets the lights?
From what I've read about my truck, you turn the key on to the Accessory position, then depress the gas pedal three times within 5 seconds to turn it off. Not sure if this applies in your case though.
Stumpmi did have a good point about the catalytic converter possibly being an issue. But for sure original plugs and wires from 2001 definitely need to be changed!
