Mass air flow failed twice
 

Just a quick question, has anyone run into this? I had P0102 show up. I checked the wiring key on engine off and that was all good. I replaced the MAF sensor and the code went away at start up. I drove the car for a few days then the code came back. I again checked the wiring at the connector and got the same results so I returned the part/exchanged it for a new one. It lasted a few days then there was a sudden stall pulling out of my drive. A puff under the hood then stall. It restarted, but again the check engine light came on. The only code is P0102. The parts came from the same place/Amozon, so I'm wondering if two bad parts or maybe something blowing the sensors on the car's side of things, I checked the fuse, it's good and the wiring at the connector seems to have the right readings. Any ideas? Any help is appreciated. I'm racking my brain wondering what I'm missing, thanks.

Was the MAF you purchased remanufactured? That would increase your chances of getting a bad part. Nothing make diagnosis tougher than getting a bad part that should have fixed the original problem, but it happens. Probably with MAF's more than the average part.

I once spent over a thousand bucks on an old Firebird throwing parts at it because the first part I put on it (a $40 mechanical fuel pump) was bad

What are you running as an intake / air filter?

It's a very basic question, but besides the fact that you got a faulty MAF again, it's worth checking your filter too.

Are you using a genuine OEM replacement part? I agree, 2nd tier aftermarket parts are prone to a unusually higher than normal failure rate. Did the puff of smoke smell like fuel or electrical or what?

There was no puff of smoke, just a puff under the hood while driving when the part failed. I picked up a part at the bone yard just to see what would happen. It's driving like a new car. I've started the return on the failed Amozon parts. Never Again.

Alright, nice boneyard repurposing. Like your style and resolve. Good work there detective. So did you mean a "Poof" and not "puff" under the hood? Your vernacular is throwing me off.

Hope this part lasts more than 3 days, if so you could be in the green.

Sorry, I called it a puff instead of poof. I'm in the bad habit of writing like I talk. I just wanted to convey in writing what I heard under the hood, but you're right, the right word for the job is like the right tool for the job. Thanks for the imput.
