Default keyless entry for 97 ls program

I recently purchased a 97 monte carlo ls and the keyless entry remote is not there for it. If I buy one off of ebay that doesn't have the program, can i get the program of the internet somewhere and will it work for my car, or should I just have it programed at the dealership. Anyone know how much it would cost to do that. Or do you think that I should just buy one that has the program with it. Thank you Brandi

Bring your VIN to the Dealership and have them do a quick look. They will be able to answer your question as if it is possible or if you need equipment but I beleive that is all handled in the Radio. I'm working on this same problem with my roommate.

If you need to pickup a new radio or something that has the controls in them, then I would check E-Bay for the radio as they sell for about $100.

Your other option is to have one installed and I would recommend professionally installed. I have a very expensive alarm system on my car and I'm pretty good with wiring and hooking up stereos. This thing was a beast and the only thing I had problems with was the door locks because I needed 2 relays built for the system.

So you have 2 options.... I will have the keyless entry problem solved one way or the other by the end of the week for my roommate or just go out and have a 3rd party alarm system installed with keyless entry. I would recommend remote start too, but I don't think it gets really cold in your area.

I just found a great site for this and the instructions are below!!! You will need to find this receiver in your trunk first and unfortunately I have no idea what it looks like.

http://www.programyourremote.com/

1. Locate the Programming Connector leading to the receiver in the trunk (passenger side). It is a plastic connector with one wire leading up to it. The connector is not plugged into anything. You may have to pull back the right side trunk trim to access the connector.

2. The programming connector should have one terminal. Ground this terminal to the trunk hatch or a nearby bolt. The door locks will automatically lock then unlock to indicate initiation of programming mode. Make sure the programming connector stays grounded throughout the programming.

3. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter for 12 seconds or until the door locks will cycle once. Your new remote has been accepted and all existing remote codes have been erased.

4. Repeat the previous step for each of the remaining transmitters (including any existing transmitters). Do not remove ground between programming of transmitters.

5. Remove the jumper wire from the keyless programming connector.

Hey guys. I just had to buy a new keyless remote for my 2001 MCSS since BOTH of mine broke. If you go through the dealer you're looking at 100 bucks just for the remote. I found this site that sells the keyless remotes for all cars. They mail you the remote, battery and instructions on how to "teach" your car to learn the new remote.

The remote, battery, instructions and shipping cost a grand total of $25.00.

The website is www.keylessride.com.

They mailed it the same day I placed my order. When I get it, I'll let you know how it works out.

Well, I got my remote from Keylessride.com and it works perfectly. It took 2 days to get the remote and it took me 30 seconds to program it. Good website!
