Default Just bought an '03 MCSS.. smoking after ride home.

I don't know much about cars, just bought this 2003 Monte Carlo SS that I really like

It's already smoking, I noticed when I pulled in the driveway. it's raining outside but I popped the hood and the smoke was coming from the passenger side near the headlight. it's a long shot until I can get it to a mechanic

If you bought it from any kind of a dealer i would take it back.

x2 on a return visit to the seller. Does it smell like antifreeze? With the location you described it could be something as simple as a radiator hose, hopefully not the radiator itself.

x3 I would take it back to the dealer. Even a used car dealer has to give a 30 day warranty.
What does the smoke look and smell like? Is it like steam and smell sweet or is it gray and smell like oil. Like Jim said, from the location you described, it could be a bad hose or a loose clamp. Again, hopefully not the radiator!

Default Thx for replies

So I haven't spoke to seller yet, I drove to gas station and grocery store no signs of smoking today..

Yesterday it was actually smoking at the back of the passenger side from the alternator?

Look close at the coolant elbows that go into the tensioner bracket. It's under the alternator.
I had a hairline crack in mine onetime, was almost impossible to see,but was cracked, and would spray a mist of steam. Good news is easy fix and the elbows are like 10$ at dealer.

Sounds like you have bad Coolant Elbows. They come from the intake manifold running coolant thru the bracket that the Alternator is on then into the hoses to the fire wall and into your heater core. The coolant elbows are made of plastic and dry rot and leak.
Have your mechanic check them out. There may be a small puddle of coolant under them.

Just check your Coolant level before you go!

It was the coolant elbows! I replaced them with the same brand Duramon or something like that but they are alluminum this time.

Now another issue, I noticed my passenger side floor board is soaked. I thought the window was leaking but window, door, seat and dash are all dry. Hoping this isn't damaging my electrical I'm not sure of the source
