Horrible Radio Reception

I just bought a 01 Monte Carlo LS and I am not able to get some of the stations on the radio. I did find that there is an antenna module, could this be bad or could it be something else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Do you have the stock radio? My Monte only gets one station, but it has a cheap aftermarket radio that someone just threw in it when they traded it. I know that there is a difference in tuners in some radios.

tinted windows + aftermarket radio = horrible reception

those gismos that claim to "boost" the signal don't work either

it is a stock radio and no tint on windows

you may want to check the connection to the antenna, the antenna is built into the rear window, sometimes the solder between the wire and the antenna breaks or becomes loose, that's where I would check first

Well, I got it to work a little better. The previous owner had satellite radio and they left the converter behind the radio. I took it out and plugged the factory antenna back into the radio and it is Better. I also Checked the antenna connection. everything looked good back there except the defog connection. Thanks for the help!!!

I've noticed from personal experience that the antenna in the Montes aren't the most receptive. My 73 Camaro with its antenna integrated into the frame is FAR more receptive. Even better are the cars with the external antenna. Doesn't look as good, but sometimes you gotta choose between looks and functionality.

Just learned something new once again! ;):p I remember those '70s GM windshield antennas, but I didn't know about that.

Yeah believe it or not they're quite receptive! The one in my 73 is far better than the one in the 01 Monte that I had I can promise you that.

Try this: turn on your rear window defroster and see if your reception decreases or not. If it gets worse, you have a short between your rear window defogger and your antenna. Ask me how I know? And there is a short, unless you can find someone that knows how to locate and repair that (good luck), you will need a new rear window to cure it right.
