General question about interchangeable parts

I just posted about issues with my car that I think is the starter. My question is are parts interchangeable with a 2005 Monte Carlo? I know some parts like exhaust won't be. From what I have read 1998-2005 3800 engines are pretty much interchangeable on parts. Does that include starters? I know the Pontiac Grand Am, Buick Regal, and Impalas have a lot in common with the Monte Carlos. Anyone know where I can find a detailed list on this?

The Grand Am has almost nothing in common with these cars. The Grand Prix does.

The easiest place to start is actually Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market. It actually uses the same database that junkyards use to tell them if they have a particular part for a particular car. Look up the starter for your car. If one of the vehicles it lists is a Regal, you have your answer.

The Grand Am has a lot in common with the 2000-2004 3400 powered Montes. But not the case here since the OP is asking about a 2005 (and I don't think the 3400 was offered in 2005, but don't quote me on that).

Any time I needed to find the parts interchange, I hope on a web site for an auto parts store. A lot of times, they can tell you what additional cars that part fits. RockAuto.com is a good source.
