Almost finished preparing body to go to paint. Frame off work complete including powder coating frame and replacing all suspension and brakes. Interior stripped. Last item is to remove ac/heater module from firewall including heater core, blower, etc.. Can't figure out how to separate module from interior lower heater duct. Module is completely loose from firewall. Anybody have ideas?

 

it's kind of a b word to pull out of there, just make sure you have all the connections unhooked from the controls on the dash, other than that i don't think i pulled anything off just started pulling out, it won't be a strait forward just pull strait out you have to go out and to your left (out where your fender is supose to be) with it because it goes a good halfway into the car now if your trying to separate the two inside/ outside part i'm not much help

 

Thanks for the response. I still have my fender on at this point. Does it require removing the fender?
I was hoping to separate the heater vents (inside) from the main unit (outside). I see how that may be impossible and it does make sense that during manufacture Chevy installed this unit before the fender...

 

Unfortunatly yes you do have to pull the fender off,, otherwise it will be imposible to get out, unless some how you manage to seperate the inside from the out...

i went throught the same thing pulling mine out i was really hoping it wouldn't have to come off but in the end it has to granted i'm in deeper than i ever expected to be at this point ! any pics of your monte?

 

Okay, I did get it out without removing the fender, though I did have to remove the inner fender well on the passenger side. That allowed me to get the whole module out a little farther so I was able to get to the 5 screws that hold the lower left hand duct assembly to the main unit. You cannot see three of the screws until you pull the module out about two inches. You have to remove the small duct that directs the heat to the floor, then remove the other section on the left bottom. The rest of the module is one piece.
Can't finger out how to add a photo yet as I'm a rookie on this site.....
I was able to post some pictures on my garage under "resto"

good to hear you got it out without having to pull the fender.. mine had to come off anyways so i didn't bother paying attention.. i do like the fact you can seperate it tho!
