Default Fuel tank filler neck pipe?

2001 Monte Carlo SS.

I noticed yesterday that the "flapper" inside the fuel tank filler neck pipe on my '01 Monte Carlo is not there. I'm assuming the neck pipes on all these cars should have the "flapper" in the tube correct? My buddies '03 LS has the flapper and every car I've ever seen has one. To explain a little its basically when I go to pump gas its just an open tube when I unscrew the gas cap there is no "flapper" that normally would be there where you insert the gas nozzle.

What would this do if its missing? Would the gas evaporate? Would it slosh out? Where would the flapper have gone? Would it have went down inside the tank and will it cause future problems there?

Thanks for any answers on this.

It won't really hurt if its not there. The gas cap keeps everything closed, so you won't need to worry about evaporation. The only real purpose that serves is to make it more difficult for people to stick foreign matter in your gas tank.

It wouldn't have fallen all the way in. Odds are someone took it off. Maybe they used to fill their car at home with gas cans and it got in the way, so they removed it.

OK cool as far as the gas cap keeping everything "closed" should that cap be somewhat difficult to twist off? Mine is quite easy to twist off. The cap on my buddies '03 LS is quite hard to twist off. I'm wondering if my gas cap isn't sealing good like it should?
