Fog Lights ?
I have a 2002 LS model and I was wondering what was up with the fog lights.
There is no swtch to turn them on like owners manual says there should be and they dont turn on VIA the headlights knob. There are definitely fog lights on the car and I just cant for life of me figure it out. Has anyone bumped into this oddness before? Are the "Fog Lights" I am looking at just fillers to make the bumps look better ? |
LS models did not come stock with fog lights. Are you sure you actually have fog lights or do is just look like this?

Not only does an LS not have fog lights, it doesn't have any of the wiring or the relay, and even if you install all of the needed components, the BCM (Body Control Module) won't activate the fog lights.

No, it is not just plastic fills pieces.
Unless these are fake foglights. |

Im not a total lost cause when it comes to fixing up a car but I am still new.
"Pigtails" ....Meaning like a wiring harness of some sort ? |
I believe you are right about the bumper being re- painted in the past.
I couldn't actually see in behind the bumper so I stuck my phone in there in video mode. When I played it back I could see the gasket where the wires should be but it looks like some one cut them just behind the lights. But if the factory fog lights are not controlled by the head light switch and there is no "fog light" button next to it, how did these work in the past ? Makes sense if someone painted the bumper and just didn't want to hook the lights back up again. |
You can see down there from above the headlight, under the hood.
As far as the foglights go, it sounds like they may have been placed there without wiring. They DID NOT come stock on your car. What I'm thinking may have happened is there was an accident and the bumper was replaced with a bumper from an SS car. |
Hmmmm SS bumper huh ?
I'll take it ! Haha Then I guess as long as the lights are good I just need to wire them and install a switch. I am wondering if those fog lights will look relevent compared to the new lightbulb technology that has been developed since 2002, like LED and what not ? I will eventually get either new headlights with LED lights or just buy ultra bright white bulbs. Sylvaniastar ultra white were what I had on my other car and they looked really good. |

The SS and LS bumpers are identical, just different pieces in the fog light area. |

I second this. I was rearended and had my back bumper cracked and the only usable silver one the local junkyard had has the sport trim (mine doesn't have it) so that's probably what it is. |
It looks like you have the LS trim on the bottom of your bumper. I wonder if the 'grilles' that were originally there got poked out and someone just decided to replace them with foglights as the grilles weren't replaceable.

Either way it makes it a bit easier on me me as now I dont have to buy the light but just the wiring and maybe new bulbs. |

I just bought new pigtales for the bulbs and wired them into a standard rocker switch with an inline fuse. No issues in the last 3 years. |

Honestly, the housings and brackets are a huge pain to find, so it really does make it easier on you.

I have a bit of an unfair advantage actually. .. I work at a dealership (it may be Ford but dont judge) so once I do the homework I can get service to do whatever I need for either free or a great price.

You can always put hids or LEDs in those fog lights. They would look better with keeping them stock. Just wire a switch were the stock one is. I have hids in mine and they work fine. Mine you can't tell I even have fogs since mine are blacked out.
|
You have to be careful with HIDs in the fogs as well. I wouldn't go over 35w or you risk melting the housing.
|
I agree with Mitch on that. I only have 35 watt and have had no issues yet. Hahaha
|
That's what I went with as well when I had them. I had 6000k 35w from DDMTuning.
|
Mitch what do you have now?
|
Im not going to wire them through the BCM.
I have a toggle switch for them that I will use. I wouldn't use HIDs in the fog lighs but instead I am thinking about using white LED strip inside the fog light hole in a circle around the light itself and it will be low on heat(as someone mentioned) too considering I wont have to get any crazy expensive lights and it will still make the car look a bit more up to date. |
Yeah I would use a toggle switch too. You may want to use an led a bulb. It would probably look better than a led strip.
|
I was actually going to have both.
Going to have the LEDs in a circle around the foglight on the inside of the hole for them. LEDs are cheap enough and easy to hook up, if it looks bad ill just take them off. |

Thanks for the tip dude.
We have a pretty sweet parts and accesories department at the dealership. I may be a kid in a candy store on payday this friday. |
No problem.. Buy away :D
Just be sure to post your updates here of course haha |
