Engine won't start

Car sounds like it's just about to start, but won't actually turn over. On occasion, however, it will start up and seems to run ok. I had it tested and the battery and alternator seem to be ok. Any suggestions?

Hi there and welcome to the forum!! :)
Can you tell us a bit more about your Monte (year, engine, any modifications, etc)?

1997 3.1L no modifications. Thought it may be the fuel pump but someone told me if the fuel pump is working then I should hear a humming while the key is in the ignition but before turning it over, and I heard the humming. Don't know if that actually means anything tho

Not always the case, unfortunately. I had a 96 Grand Prix with a 3.1 and the fuel pump hummed and still ended up being bad.
Hopefully someone with much more experience in troubleshooting these issues will see this post and add what they know!! :)
